Psalm 119:33
     HE - ה
Teach me, O LORD, the way of thy statutes; and I shall keep it unto the end.
Give me understanding, and I shall keep thy law; yea, I shall observe it with my whole heart.
Make me to go in the path of thy commandments; for therein do I delight.
Incline my heart unto thy testimonies, and not to covetousness.
Turn away mine eyes from beholding vanity; and quicken thou me in thy way.
Stablish thy word unto thy servant, who is devoted to thy fear.
Turn away my reproach which I fear: for thy judgments are good.
Behold, I have longed after thy precepts: quicken me in thy righteousness.

I am fascinated with patterns and structure, and as I thought about this passage throughout the week, it occurred to me that David was following a structure/pattern in each section of Psalm 119. Think of a haiku (poem structured by number of sylables)  then extend that to the "nature" of each phrase. I think the same structure might apply to all parts of Psalm 119, in some cases ordered differently - I'm not saying I got the structure right!

The following ideas correspond (in my opinion) directly with each phrase of the above passage.
This is probably not accurate, but: here are my initial thoughts about how the "Letters" in Psalm 119 were constructed... notes to self, if you will:
     name / letter
     Basic Idea - alone
     Basic Construct
     Adornment
     Presentation
     Death and Grace
     Application
     Halelujah
     Basic Idea - filled

Here is my own attempt to write a "poem" using the same form:

     Breath
This faith is a road of righteousness, by your grace I will keep it, Oh Lord
By your word and your Spirit I will walk this path till the end of my days
By your word lighten, Oh Lord, by your Spirit guide my steps in Your joy
Fashion me that I should bless without seeing, that I should doubt not Your word
When I see that which deceives, close my eyes. Finish my faith by Your word.
Let my feet hold your steps, this path of faith let me keep and not decline
Let this faith utter praise to the words of Your Rock, holy, just and good
Make me perfect in Shiloh in whom I believe. By your Spirit will I speak.

My father enjoys this book: The Literary Structure of the Old Testament, by David A. Dorsey.  It is all about patterns and structure.

Conscience---C

Lord, O Lord, your Words I praise...I am not quite understanding the C.
If you would cover the C with a cover of protection, that your hurting
brow would bend loving down on me and my C. You have built in a C---
that is it is so with me...Why can't I figure anymore? Does C=mc2?
But Your love is not an equation>and all C is is felt as a sting or a song.
How  Smiley Cry O how I long for you, Lord! My heart is muscle and tender at that.
Sore long after shoulders piped up like strong weeds...What do the
shoulders say to my heart?   "your C is your Bible to keep me from tensing up..."
Oh, I read your Bible but I received YOU! Since all that I have is you from your
Bible I have wondered...till all I say I have is all your Word hid in my heart.
I praise my God for tender godly children who walk close to you and find in
me whomever I may tell of You, this Jesus who has won my heart, sure can win
theirs too! Who listen to Word, and find Real life not a fuss, to mention
any Word to them from life or from mouth...'cause pages are lives now, and
Holy Spirit our C.  Amen

Ephesians 5:2

I am fascinated with patterns and structure, and as I thought about this passage throughout the week, it occurred to me that David was following a structure/pattern in each section of Psalm 119. Think of a haiku (poem structured by number of sylables)  then extend that to the "nature" of each phrase.

Yesterday in worship, we were in the Psalms, & I recalled this thread. It challenged me to look closer at the construction of Psalms. I took the section of Psalm 119 Gabe mentioned and made my own notes about the pattern.

Psalm 119:33-40
HE.
title
Teach me, O LORD, the way of thy statutes; and I shall keep it unto the end.
petition
Give me understanding, and I shall keep thy law; yea, I shall observe it with my whole heart.
what I will do with granted petition
Make me to go in the path of thy commandments; for therein do I delight.
direct the path
Incline my heart unto thy testimonies, and not to covetousness.
direct my heart
Turn away mine eyes from beholding vanity; and quicken thou me in thy way.
guide my eyes/perception
Stablish thy word unto thy servant, who is devoted to thy fear.
Your word in me
Turn away my reproach which I fear: for thy judgments are good.
ask mercy & worship
Behold, I have longed after thy precepts: quicken me in thy righteousness.
restate petition

Then, I reflected on several passages and came up with this Psalm/Prayer/Poem (not sure what to call it  Undecided  Roll Eyes)

BREAK MY LEASE
Lord, make me to purchase eternal abundance and no longer borrow temporary trinkets.
Grant me wisdom and currency that I might buy bread that is meet.
Lead me in the way you have gone before and cause me to dwell always in Your house.
May my heart so desire and be filled with You that other charms cannot entice.
Fill me with truth. Make my eyes see, my ears hear, refusing all falsehood.
Bring your words to my mind and speak to my heart that deception cannot stand.
Keep me from those that speak leasing. Have mercy. Your delight is my joy and strength.
Let me not rent chaff and dross. Cause me to be a purchaser of eternity’s riches.

(Judges 4:14; Nehemiah 8:10; Psalm 4:2-8; Psalm 5:1-12; Psalm 23:6; Isaiah 55:1-5; II Timothy 1:12)
