The best of summer...

« on: September 21, 2007, 03:12:39 PM »

I am typing this fast, before my computer goes down........The screen has been turning black on me in the middle of being online, even after I spent over an hour this morning troubleshooting with DELL. My DH needs the computer for school next week, and our warranty is about to expire........

Thanks!

btw: I figured " relationships" was the best place to post, given this is my relationship with my computer! Smiley

I don't know if anyone was praying, but I want to thank you for your prayers....This was very very stressful. I spent many hours speaking with tech support. In the end, I finally got my computer sent in before the warranty expired. Praise God. I am also on a computer ( right now) that was given to us!!! God is so good....My husband is still able to study, even with our computer across the country being fixed Smiley

Please pray that we will be able to replace our tower.  My sister gave it to us several years ago, and it's still in good condition but needs to be replaced because there is no way to back up any files or "write" (no CD burner, etc.) on it.  I know we can get an external hard-drive, and maybe that would be a good temporary solution.  However, we really need to update the system since I keep all my work files, as well as, all our family/children photos and videos on it.  We're looking into getting high-speed, also, since where we live does not have the capability to do anything other than a satellite connection (Hughes.net - can be pricey.)  Pray for wisdom.  Thanks!!

My prayer os not for computer equipment, but for a type of equipment.

Today my husband went out and the rear driver's side tire on his truck is flat. He says the truck is in desperate need of new tires. This is a new truck (we bought it new in the fall of '06) and is used for a lot of hard jobs. The tires have lasted this long which is good. Here is the problem: There is no money to fix the tire or buy the much needed new tires. Normally this would not be a big problem, but there is a storm coming this weekend and the news just said it would hit us with snow, not rain. This truck is our main plow truck. We have many new customers with this new storm and we had a lot before hand. We were running 3 trucks regularly and a 4th when we could find a 4th driver. Please pray that my husband will be able to fix the tire and it will hold up until after the plowing.

Another request I have is for our other equipment. We have a lot...loader, bobcat, excavator, screen plant, dump trucks. Please pray that the breakdowns this spring will not be as extensive. We no longer have a mechanic (he quit around Christmas), and it was he who kept the equipment going when it broke down (and it happens a lot). Thanks, CJ

I have not heard my dh say that we got new tires, so I am assuming it was fixed without a problem? Not sure. The other equipment is being cleaned up and started on a regular basis in preparation for dirt season. No breakdowns that I have heard of...so far. Been out of it for about a week, getting ready for the homeschool conference. I just got back today (right after the conference we went somewhere else). Please keep praying. Thanks, CJ

Well, we had a major equipment breakdown yesterday. Our big dump truck (Ford L900 with a 16 foot aluminumn dump box) had an issue. The dump box fell off!

The driver parked the truck to dump a load of pit run. Usually he would have set the parking break but for some reason (I will tell you what I think the reason is later) did not this time. He got out and as he was tipping the box, the box slid off the truck, hit the ground and pushed the truck forward! The box was half on the truck and half off. Now, had the brakes been set the box would have slid into the people's house and demolished a majority of it. I think he forgot to set the brake cuz God wanted him to.

Before the truck broke my dh had figured we were 8 days behind schedule. By the time we get it fixed (choices below) we will be app. 20 days behind.

Anyway, the poor truck looks naked without it's box. We have 4 choices:

1.) Patch job: Cost of $5,000 . We would just be waiting for it to break again. Some of the aluminumn was sheared off when it fell and when the guys took it off to get the truck home.

2.) New regular (steel) dump box: $10,000 is the cheapest we can find to get one and get it installed. The prices went up from there.

3.) New Aluminumn box: $20,000 for box and installation. We had this type of box because it made out empty axel weight less, so we were able to carry more. It was very nice for when road restrictions are on, and for septic hob it was nice, with all that heavy sand we hauled.

4.) Buy a new truck: We have needed a second truck for awhile. One option is to buy on now so we do not fall further behind. Our cap price would be $20,000 (a friend wants to loan us the $$ because we do not have it and she offered....not sure what to do here). We would then start looking for a nice used box and when we found one with a resonable price my husband could spend the winter installing it himself. We are so busy now that he cannot take the time to figure out how to install it himself right now, so we would ahve to pay someone to do it so we could get it back on the road.

Pray for my husband as he makes his decision. Please pray for his stress level because we are just coming out of a hard winter where there were no paychecks for us (we are still a few months behind, but so far the Lord has provided) and the business just got all the debt down to one loan and payment. The thought of another loan is making him a bit worried. Could you also pray for our employees? We know that two are not saved. Pray that we can be a witness to these two guys through this.

Also, can you please praise the Lord that no one was hurt during the box falling off. It could have been very bad.

Thank you all, CJ

P.S. If you know of anyone who has a truck of box for sale PM me or e-mail me at the e-mail address in my profile.  Grin

My husband drove ALL over the state on Saturday and finally found a tuck. The couple that he bought it from wanted to take a road trip, so they are delivering it today or Thursday. Keep praying for $$ decisions. CJ

Continuing to pray CJ!

We have a praise. We had some plumbing difficulties that promised to be an expensive fix. Duke had a fellow come out and estimate the repair. (I confess that I wondered why since there wasn't $ to fix it  Embarrassed Lips Sealed)

Well, the repairman talked with Duke & we had a pleasant visit and talked of his days in the Peace Corp, etc. He went on his way with the understanding that it would be a while before he heard from us.

Last week, the phone rang. It was the repairman. He had some time and wanted to come and do the repair FREE OF CHARGE -- he INSISTED. All we had to do was get the parts. Not only did he come and make the repairs, but he had noticed that we were due some new fixtures and had the parts from an old job. He left them with us. I'm still flabbergasted and humbled. Who am I to second-guess when my husband calls to get an estimate?  Embarrassed

We are praying for several vehicle repairs. Our transportation requires maintenance (old, but paid for  Wink).

Please pray for our computer monitor.  It's starting to give us trouble.  Here is a post of mine from a tech support forum:

Quote
We have a Gateway EV730 17" monitor, about 5 years old. Recently, it has started to give us trouble after a period of inactivity (usually overnight). The monitor is set to have the screen saver come on after about 10-15 minutes, then it's set to "turn off" (the green light is still on though) after about 30 minutes. Normally, when coming back to the computer, you move the mouse or press a key, and the monitor comes back on. If the tower's light is green (standby mode?), the desktop comes on. If the tower's light is orange (hibernate mode?), the monitor will show the screen where you have to click on the admin's name. Lately, the monitor has not been coming back up with the move of the mouse. Sometimes, if you press the power button (off, then on), the monitor will then come on. But, sometimes, it will take several tries of this before it will come back on. Today, it took about ten tries (and 10 minutes!) before it worked. What can I do to fix this? All cords seems to be ok. Are there any settings I should check or change? Or is this monitor about shot?

If you have ideas/help, that would be great.  Otherwise, please pray that either a) I can figure out what's wrong & how to fix it.  Or b) God will provide a new monitor (because we are broke!)  Thanks!

Would you all please pray for us . . . last Wednesday, an engine light in my car came on and we're not yet sure what it means.  We're hoping to go this Saturday to have it checked out.

Also, yesterday we discovered that our well has what appears to be some pretty serious damage to it.  We're having it checked today, so we don't yet know what any of the costs will be.

We've been struggling for the last several months with finances, and now DH may have to get a 2nd job for a while to help offset many of these unexpected issues.  He's concerned about being away from us, esp. as "my time" draws near.

Thanks,

We have an '87 Suburban that we've had for a long time, and it's been sitting for about 4-5 years.  Well, dh has decided to try to get it going again.  Please pray for wisdom as he/we try to figure out what's wrong with it.  It will run & drive, but it's very hesitant upon acceleration, and it's very "chuggy"....runs very rough.....back before we parked it, it also stalled a lot.  Now's it's smoking out the tailpipe too.  Including before & now,  Dh has replaced the fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel injectors, fuel pump relay, spark plugs & wires, oxygen sensor, distributor rotor & cap, vacuum hose,  gas in tank, throttle position switch, & temperature sensor.   But, suburban still has same symptoms (minus the stalling...yet!), & dh is not sure what to try next.  Pray for dh,  and if any of you are a mechanic, or are married to one, maybe you can give us some advice?  Thanks!

While we are praying for Gabe to be able to complete and post his studies, it may also be a good idea to pray for little distractions to cease. Lately, there have been server and technical issues to pull him away from this vital work.
I'm going to pray that these little foxes be driven away. Fox Emoticon
