I have ordered 7 items from tznius.com or modestclothing.com and I do love the skirts.  I have however been having a terrible time with a return of a defective item.  One of the skirts I ordered has a hole in it and the website asks that you contact them before returning.  I have attempted contact a dozen times and keep having problems.  Sometimes I wonder if this is a method of diffusing returns and I am frustrated by this but hope it is an isolated incident.  Otherwise, I do love the skirts I purchased.  Just thought you might want to know if you were considering purchasing from them at this time.
If they have email, you might consider letting them know that they come highly recommended by some of our forum members, but if they refuse to rectify the matter, that may change.  Wink

Hi HB,
I will be trying again tonight to reach them.  I will try that tactic but my gobs of emails keep coming back either undeliverable (but I do use the right addresses - three different email addresses) or they are just not answered.  I am just very frustrated but I hope this does work out in the end.  I am hopeful  Smiley

I got the brown corduroy skirt from www.tznius.com for Christmas.  LOVE IT!!!!!  I thought my sister would have to hem it for me, since it is a size 8 (smallest size they come in), but it just reaches the floor on my 5'2" frame, and with boots it's perfect.  I almost step on it at times, so I lift it up on my waist more, but it works!  On the site it says to order one size larger than normal, so I assumed 8 would fit since I am right now pretty much a size 6 (trying to get to my size 4 again!) and they were right on!  It fit perfectly!  Size 8 normal would fall off of me so that was good advise.  When I get to size 4 again  Wink I think I could just pin the waist - it's covered up anyway.  The skirt was made of very nice material!

If it is all cotton or high cotton just wash it in hot water, it will shrink. My DD is in adult sizes but is petite, so I use this trick a lot, I just buy a little larger than she wears. Clothes will shrink most in the length. The hotter the water, the more it shrinks. I have even boiled a corduroy dress that I got for DD that was way too big- she absolutely did not want to wait to wear until she grew into it. HTH Blessings ~herbalmom

Yep, I've said before that I do "odd" things. This dress was WAY too big for her but it was a like new LL Bean corduroy dress for only a few $ & I couldn't pass it up. I had planned to put it up until she fit it but she fell in love w/it & wanted to be able to wear it NOW. How much something shrinks depends on how hot the water is, how long it stays in the water, & how quickly it heats up- it will shrink more if it is dunked straight into hot water than if it is in the washer as it's filling. I needed this to shrink a lot so I boiled it on the stove in a large pot. It fit beautifully when I was done.

If you try this, keep in mind that there is no way of knowing how much something is going to shrink so it's a guess at best. Also, boiling is probably not the best thing for the fabric. I don't do this with new items but if I get it cheap I can take a chance. Blessings ~herbalmom

Wow, herbalmom, I may try that.  I'm afraid it might shrink in the waist though too, no?  The waist is not elastic so there is not much room for shrinkage there!  So should I just soak it in the hot water in the washer?  How long?

I did!  They are very nice skirts, even the $10 ones, but I would have to buy long boots then to wear with them to make them look good b/c they aren't super long.  Which I still like but I don't have the shoes (boots) for them.  The ones I liked anyway.  *sigh*

If I understood what you were saying about your skirt, you expect that it will be too big after you lose weight. In that case, your waist would be smaller than it is now so there would be room for the skirt waist to shrink. Most things I just throw into a reg. hot wash in the machine. As I said, I cannot guarantee how something will turn out so USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. Most of our outer clothes are bought at thrift stores & yard sales so I am comfortable with taking the chance that I will over shrink something & it will turn out too small. Besides, who hasn't shrunk something before by accidentally putting it in too hot of water? If you have some cotton things that are outgrown, has holes, etc you might try it with those to get a feel for how it does. Another way would be to get a piece of fabric, wash & dry it your normal way, measure it, wash in hot & dry it, & measure it again. Just keep in mind that every piece is different & there are no hard & fast rules. A lot of it will depend on your water temp. When in doubt, I have started with a lower temp water & if it doesn't shrink enough wash it again in hotter water. I'm sorry I can't be more exact but this is kinda a fly but the seat of the pants thing. HTH Blessings ~herbalmom

I primarily wear  long skirts every day and only pants for occasional house/yardwork.  Last week I wore pants on two days just for the added warmth because it was super windy and I was going to be outside for an extended period of time and I felt very different.  I wore very nice, well fitting pants yet I was conscience of how my legs and everything were displayed.  I actually felt somewhat undressed as I walked around. I am sure no one noticed anything at all but it really reinforced why ladies wear skirts - at least for me.  I was very happy to put my skirts back on the next day.

I feel very feminine in long skirts, but also what's funny is that long skirt I bought, since I can't "feel" it on my body, like I can with jeans, I keep wanting to feel in the back to make sure it's still there!  Weird, I know, but I am so much more covered up yet I also kinda feel naked b/c the skirt is so flowy I can't feel it!   Undecided

Try wearing leggings under the skirt. They add warmth and can make you "feel" more dressed. They also keep you covered on those windy days!

Boots!  I have warm knee height boots from Bass that are great with skirts.  I hate dress shoes so if I can't wear my flip flops or chacos (summer time) I have to wear boots.  I also have a pair of Danskos that look alright with dresses.
I believe in spending money on good shoes.  Feet are imortant to support and take care of!

Hey HB, check out Keen shoes.  They're my favorite.  Oh, and Chako.  I only own 3 pair of shoes: Keen Providence, Chako sandals, and some sneakers.

I'm on my feet all day, so I like to wear Born brand shoes.  They make great sandals and clogs and while they are expensive, they are excellent quality and provide great support, and I never have to worry about breaking them in!  (They also make some really cute styles!)  I also believe in investing in good quality shoes - especially since I'm a grown up and my feet are not growing, I can get MANY, many years of good wear out of a pair!  I don't have very many pair of shoes, but the ones I have serve me very well!  Ballerina flats are very popular right now and they look really cute with flowy skirts.  You might try that!   Smiley

These are all interesting points...

I think I don't feel undressed in a skirt because I am so used to wearing them.  I do know what you mean and sometimes a very lightweight skirt will give me that sensation.  I do want to buy a few pairs of leggings but for now I wear tights underneath and often paired with knee high socks.  For every day wear I wear a great pair of black Merrill shoes (pricey but I wear them all the time and we have an outlet nearby) or I wear a high pair of black boots.  In the summer I will wear sandals or even tennis shoes.  The tennis shoes are not a fashion statement but then again, neither am I.  I wear them because they are very functional and people who care think I have no taste (or now shoes).  Also, I have 4 boys and I like them to see me in skirts.  They really like all of my feminie qualities. They love to touch my hair and jewelery and all of my pretty things.  So, I think it reinforces that ladies take care of themselves and I personally just feel kind of frumpy and lazy in jeans.  They are just comfort clothes for me.  NOT that I think other people look that way because I often find myself admiring other people and the way they look when they are wearing pants and such.  So, hope that didn't offend anyone.  Skirts are just a personal preference for me.

OK HB,  it's my opinion that you have excellent taste in shoes!  If you have a Coldwater Creek outlet nearby you should check out their shoes every now and then.  Sometimes they will put them on sale for $10 a pair (I don't usually care for their clothes and they don't have my size much anyway).  They carry name brand shoes but put in their private label.  I have found a new favorite of mine at Fred's (a lot like Dollar General).  That may be a southern states store.  They are pointy mules with sequins all over.  They were only $5.  I will admit I am a shoe snob but I get all kinds of compliments on them!  You might also look for a store called the Rugged Wearhouse or Gabriel Bros. (differant names in differant states).  They carry some nice (and some hoochie) shoes but will put them on sale at the end of the season and then 1/2 off the sale price.  I have brand new Echo shoes from there that I paid $1.50 for and they retail for $100 and up!  Also check out Marshall's and TJ Maxx.  You never know what you'll find there.

For the rest of you,  clogs are a great choice for casual shoes with skirts.  I love boots but can't find any small enough in the calves to fit my legs...Oh well I live in the South and wouldn't get that much life out of them anyway.

Hi Ladies,
I just wanted to post this update since I made my problem with tznius public.  I sent out one more attempt to reach them by email after posting this.  I actually sent out 3 emails to different addresses of thiers and only one went through.  I have had this problem before so I was resigning myself to not having any quick resolution with them  until just now.  Aviva, a wonderful employee of theirs who I have always had excellent contact with, just called me.  They were having email issues and computer issues but she has resolved this situation very much to my satisfaction.  I just wanted to make that known to all.  And, they will be restocked on corduroy wrap skirts and adding velvet wrap skirts in the next few weeks Smiley Smiley Smiley  I asked if they would be getting the pink skirts back and she said likely they would - oh, can't wait to buy one of those.

If you sew you can make a pair of bloomers, with just the elastic at the top (fold the top down for a self elastic casing), and trim the bottom with lace or ribbon.  Very pretty, simple, and easy.  If the bloomers have wide legs, they look more like a slip this way, and you can use a very lightweight white cotton for summer and it's very cool.  I just don't feel dressed if I've got pants that outline my rear, or a skirt that has nothing under it.  I need both!  It is very easy to adjust the length as needed also, from "shorts" to near ankle length.  I like mine a couple inches below my knee.

We make bloomers (or pantaloons) also.  I helps my very active girls keep their modesty while climbing trees, riding horses, or tumbling around.   The teens like to have the pretty lace on the borders or I have even made them with the pretty border eyelet fabric.
These are SO easy to make!
I agree, too, about pants or skirts/dresses that outline my rear making me feel under-dressed.  My husband won't permit us to show our form.  He has a past that includes porn and he is truthful with me about what men 'like' to look at and why.

Us too.  We were completely steeped in the world, and all that that entails, so we carefully consider a lot of things that most people overlook.  A lot of people probably think we overdo it, but "we know from whence we came" and how the minds of the wicked work- too well.  So yeah, bloomers are great!

The modest dressing thing just crept into me a short while ago.. I was thinking about how I needed some new jeans, and was dreading it becuase it's so hard to find ones that don't show a peek of your unders when you pick up anything... then to find ones that cover, they don't look very attractive. Oh, and everything is all torn up nowdays.. Then I have this one skirt that I love, and always feel so pretty in, and I realize, that's a comfortable piece of clothing, that looks nice, and shows off nothing.. So I asked my husband, how does he feel about what I'm wearing, and he almost barks the comment "You mean every shirt you own and how it shows off your...."  Well, you get it. He is not a church going guy, and I really didn't realize that even a vneck shirt really puts him out of joint. Rest assured, I wasn't baring all, but I guess too much. So yesterday I went to a second hand store in the next town, and found five shirts and three long skirts for $50... Not bad.. and when we went to the NRA banquet last night,  I mentioned I really loved this picture there, and he bid over $200 on it!!! (We didn't win it... I was flattered, but relieved) The gesture was so wonderful, and I realized how important it is to be his, and show him that I respect that!

Here's some modest (and fashionable!) clothing.

Slightly pricey (for my thrift store budget!  Roll Eyes), but looks well made and comes from Israel!
