Prophetic/meaningful type dreams

Well I looked for this topic, but didn't find a thread that met my need so I started one. I apologize if there is a thread and I missed it.
Also I put this question here, in Sarah's Daughters, because I am a wife and I am looking mostly for "what you have done" scenarios regarding this while making sure to obey the guidelines laid down for wives in the NT regarding being in submission and not speaking in the church. But men and scriptural replies are more than welcome too. Ok, so is that a long enough preface?
On to the question-
Have you ever had a dream that was prophetic or from God? Like maybe a dream to let you know someone was hurting? Or a dream that showed you the future? Or....? This is a hard question to ask in a clear way because there are so many different types of dreams, and there are also visions and other things. I am mostly interested in dreams for now since I have been having more of them lately. But my main concern is, what do you do with that dream? And how are you certain when it is from God or when you ate something bad? And when you have a dream from God, is every element important? Because sometimes it seems like there are small pieces of things from my daily life here and there that have no meaning with the main part of the dream. And let's say you have a dream about someone that you feel you need to share, but your not sure how to share that in a way that is acceptable or won't freak people out who might not understand the whole dreaming thing?
So what is your advice? And if you want to share, what are/were your dreams? What did you do with them? I tried to start a poll, but I have never done one before so if my options don't quite seem to fit let me know and I will adjust them.

I haven't had any but then again we don't believe God speaks through dreams any longer. [We believe that] [t]he Bible tells us that signs were for the Jews and as Gentiles we have the full Bible therefore God speaks to us through that and the Holy Spirit.

I had a dream that was completely terrifying to me as a child. There was nothing about that would feel particularly scary if I described the dream to anyone but nonetheless I woke up in a cold sweat. I told my mother about it and she told me that there was something in my life that I needed to give up to God and get rid of or my life would be destroyed. I knew what she was talking about and she was right...it got me into a lot of trouble later.

I don't know how to answer this poll. I had a lot of "experiences" before I was saved that would count as prophetic but not from God. And the only dreams I can think of that might qualify, since I've been saved, were when someone close to me was committing a certain sin (unbeknownst to me at the time) and I had very vivid, very strange, nightmares related to that. The dreams weren't really helpful to me, or the other person, they just happened.

There are a lot of references to dreams/visions/prophesy in the new testament, so we believe that God does still use dreams, visions, prophesy to speak to us - and will do more as times get worse. The following scripture, I believe, shows that it is through His Spirit that the prophesy, visions, dreams will come about...
Acts 2:16-21
(King James Version)
16But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;
17And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:
18And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:
19And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke:
20The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and notable day of the Lord come:
21And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.
For myself, I have had a couple dreams that seemed to signify certain things. When I was a young woman, I also had what I believe was a vision of something that will happen in the future (my lifetime). Until it comes to pass, I won't know if it was just *me* or if it was really from the Lord -- but I can still see it so clearly in my mind...?

Well it sounds like most people have questions like me.

Ya , I have had some things like that too and my dh believes they are from God and that He wants us to pray for that person/situation. So far that is all I have done with dreams like that. As far as the "experiences" they are certainly real (and creepy
) , but I am mostly wondering about dreams from God- like what does he want us to do with them? I would consider your other dreams from God since they were accurate and vote accordingly (if you want to vote
)

My dh and I agree

I am a very lucid and vivid dreamer who dreams in great detail and can actually feel, smell and taste in my dreams. I can stop a dream I don't like and start up another dream subject. I am often, if not most of the time, conscience in my dreams.
I believe that my dreams come from 3 differant sources.
1-
[They are just my mind playing stuff out and being the typical dream mind
.
These are the types of dreams I will change the most often.
2-
Evil forces trying to enter my dreams and cause me misstrust and fear which is NOT from God.
I have not been able to stop these very disturbing dreams from happening but when this category of dream happens it goes away for the night when I say " in the name of Jesus leave me NOW!". Since the other 2 types of dreams are not from evil forces I don't need to say that in those dreams even tho they will sometimes be disturbing. Actually these dreams have decreased a lot compared to what it used to be like. I pray before bed about it. I beleive these dreams are the devils way to confuse me and cause misstrust and fear in my hart about God. A way to disturb my relationship with God.
3-
Dreams from God that help me
.
There is no control when these types of dream take place. I may still be conscience during these dreams but not able to disrupt or change them like I can the others. I have sat straight up from a deep sleep after having a dream about someone I have never met or someone I have not saw/spoken to in over 20 years. I take this to mean I need to pray for them for whatever reason. I will most likely never know why I needed to pray for them. I may never see or talk with them but for whatever reason I must pray for them and bring them before God in prayer. I sometimes will see their faces and hear their names and know that they are real and living on this earth somewhere and need prayer.
I have also had dreams that tell me where lost items are. This just happened again recently to me. I believe it is God helping me because after all I did ask Him where such and such item was and to help me find it. So He did.
I could go on and on about dreams I have had from God that have prepared me for certain situations and so on. I don't think they are just for us to pray but sometimes to prepare us for something either mentally, physically, emotionally or spiritually or all of them.
Some ppl don't like to hear about my scary dreams ( the scary ones that ARE NOT from evil forces) because everyone says they sound to much like we think the end times will be. Because there is no children in the dreams. No old ppl. Only those who are able to run, hide, and survive amongst complete and total upheaval and distruction. No food, tainted water, diseases everywhere, all those who believe in Jesus are being chased and tortured by an unseen force. Bla bla bla it goes on and on. I wish I could change and or stop those dreams by saying in the name of Jesus be gone. But since those dreams are not from evil forces it wont work. I have no idea why I have to dream them. I know Im going to heaven as soon as the rapture takes place, but I do know that destruction can happen to us before the rapture takes place. Im hoping and praying it doesn't. But awful stuff is happening to Christians in some other countries so why couldn't it happen here also some day? Scary stuff. Makes me pray pray pray.
I still sometimes suffer with the meaning behind dreams. There seems to be no clear answer sometimes. Sometimes it is just the mind flipping out and doing its thing.
I typed all that incase any of my experiences might give ya some idea/help or whatever.
I know dreams are not for everyone. But there are some of us who do dream and have done so all of our lives. For me sleeping is like watching a movie in my head. Sleeping can be very entertaining sometimes. LOL.

Ok... the details are really "simple", as in it was not complex or filled with in-depth information.
If this was really from the Lord, I believe He used a familiar landscape so that I would understand the "season", not the
year
of the happening, simply the time of year. In this "vision" or "dream", I came to the crest of a hill (the junction of a highway we traveled repeatedly as I was young.) Because of the position of the sun in the sky, I believe this was early-to-mid summer. At the crest of the hill, I could see for miles - even across the water to Canada.
I remember an eerie feeling, as at this junction in the highway, there were usually power poles and lines all intersecting and crossing overhead... Instead, there were no lines, no poles, nothing. As far as I could see, there was nothing indicating a "modern" country.
Though it seemed and felt "real", I knew this was not "real" but a dream; I remember trying to understand what this meant - but immediately, it was as though the Lord explained (nonverbally, as in I just "understood") the lines/poles were not
physically
missing; they were still apparantly standing (?), but the Lord had erased them from my vision, to signify the loss of "power" and "modern" lifestyle. "Soon" (in my lifetime) there would be a great change, and it would take place during a summer time - or at least affect that area during that season.
Anyway, not exactly a "profound" or detailed vision, but though it has been 20 years, I can still see it so clearly in my mind...?

Here is some advice that Gabe and Beka wrote awhile back on a different site. Of course, you should take it to your husband to see what he thinks(not that you wouldn't do that
):
Oh, one more thing: I think there is a thread on dreams here or on WTM, but alas the search function is down and I cannot find it quickly.
I realized today that I have not written down how we "handle" dreams. I came across a couple websites that claim I'm crazy or mentally ill because I have dreams, and a few others that said I take my dreams as being "above" Scripture. While I feel it necessary to disregard what the fearful and unbelieving folks think, I'd also like to record clearly how we view these dreams, for the sake of other dreamers.
First, I recommend reading all the Scriptures that talk about dreams:
http://cf.blb.org/search/translationResults.cfm?Criteria=dream&Version=KJV&sf=5
Also look up "visions".
When I have a dream, I wake up and tell the dream as clearly and plainly as possible to my husband, because according to the Scripture, he is my "head", or spiritual authority: 1Cr 11:3 But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman [is] the man; and the head of Christ [is] God.
The Bible teaches that men and women were made for specific roles. Woman is not inferior to man, but she is created to be his helper, much like a CEO is the main helper for the owner of a large company.
Neither men nor women are perfect, but Woman has a weakness that can be "covered" by her husband: 1Ti 2:14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression. I can be deceived! However, God provided protection for me: my husband. So, I tell my dream to my husband, because he is not as likely to be deceived.
My husband prays about the dream (I also do) and commits it to God, saying something like this: "Father, we thank you for this dream. We commit ourselves to You, and ask You to teach us the truth. If this dream is a lie, we pray that You would take away the power of it and replace it with your truth. If the dream is from You, we ask that You would give clarity and understanding. We ask this in Jesus' name, Amen."
Then we are quiet for a while, listening. Sometimes a passage of Scripture will come to mind and so we turn on the light and get out the KJV Bible and read the passage. Often it contains the answer, confirming the dream or displacing it. If the dream is shown by Scripture, or the Spirit, to be a lie, then it is cast aside, and we seek God's truth on the subject that was presented in the dream. Again, we look in Scripture. I do not record dreams that we felt were "lies."
If the Spirit or the Word confirms that the dream is from God, then we pray for a while, asking for clarity, or interpretation, or interceeding for the person(s) in the dream, until we are at peace about the matter.
If a dream gives warning about a situation, we apropriately pray for protection and are cautious in our behavior. There have been times God has saved us from grief through such a warning.
If a dream gives discernment about a person or situation, we pray about sharing the information with the people involved, and then (usually) do so. I don't post these dreams publically because they contain information about other people we know. Again, this type of insight has been helpful for us and others, along with, and secondary to, the Bible.
If the dream appears to be prophetic of the future, my husband studies the Word to see what the Bible says about the subject the dream touches. Many of my dreams seem to be about a coming war and devastation in America. While we personally believe that Bible prophecy also indicates this may happen soon, we also realize that it is not a crucial doctrine pertaining to the knowledge of Christ, and so spend our public communication dealing with issues of more immediate importance. Our expectations of the future are not perfectly clear, and again, subject to Scripture which we continue to study.
These dreams are not revelations for the reader, but dreams for the dreamer. You must seek God for yourself, through His word, and by His Spirit. He will not fail to draw near to you, as you draw near to Him.

I voted as having prophetic dreams, because many I have had come true. Whether they are of God or not, I cannot always determine. My husband has taken the "okay, honey, whatever" type of approach to my dreams. That just seems to be his stance on the situation, and not necessarily the most appropriate way to handle it for everyone else. Just wanted to share.

Wow, thank you for all that BJ! I do love to hear everyone else's experiences and I feel 7xs is a good place to start!
Runamok- wow that is interesting. And it really does seem to fit with the way things seem to be going.
HIO- I should have thought to ask you if there was a thread first!
You always know these things.
And thank you for that post from Rebekah (and thank you for posting it elsewhere Rebekah).
I do share my dreams with my dh, and he is actually the reason I pay attention to them now. Growing up I was kind of taught that people with dreams or the like were just saying things for attention (which I am sure can be true sometimes) so I made a point to never share them. But when I started telling my DH about them he had a different take on them and I have since been trying to pay attention to them. I agree with Rebekah that it is important to go to your head in order to not be deceived, which is a scary reality to me.

Last year, while my husband was 0ut of town working, I had a very vivid nightmare. I dreamed that somebody was trying to break into our home and I knew their intention was to destroy my family. In the dream it was a very dark night and I could hear this person trying to break down the front door. I hurried to the back sliding glass door to secure it when a very evil, scarey woman stepped into my line of vision. I screamed at her to go away with everything that was in me, and closed the curtain. When I opened the curtain she was gone and it was daylight outside and my family was safe. I woke up trembling and sweating.
I told my daughter this dream.
Two days later I discovered an evil woman
was
trying to destroy my family.
I actually had a dream prior to this one that I told my husband. It happened about a week before he left on this work trip. In this dream a harlot walked right into my house like it was hers and started passionately kissing my husband. He responded to her. I was standing right there watching them and they acted like I wasn't even there. I grabbed the woman and yanked her off of him and asked them both "What the h*ll do you think you're doing?" My husband just shrugged, and she kind of just ceased to exist... and then I woke up.
Since then I've had one other *memorable* dream. I believe it was a warning, yet I don't know how to respond.
I dreamed that my children and I were on a camping trip. We had our bicycles with us. Somehow there was a group of people with us and they all decided to leave. It was kind of a rush-rush thing so we got onto the bus/rv with them and went to another camping spot. When we got there I realized we had left our bicycles at the other spot, so I was trying to get the driver to go back, and when he wouldn't I was trying to find somebody who would take us back to get our bikes. I sent my 3 kids to go play by the lake together, and as I was looking for a way to go get the bikes my daughter comes to me and says she can't find one of her brothers. I ran straight to the lake to discover him drowned. He was lying at the bottom of this crystal clear lake and I knew he could still be saved, revived somehow if I could get to him, but in my dream I didn't know how to swim. I called out to my husband... (who hadn't been present for the whole dream but somehow I had an idea or a hope that he was there) and then I woke up.
This dream happened the week before my husband moved back home permenantly. I've prayed and prayed that what we've been through this past year will not result in our son being *lost*, as that seems to be the easy interpretation of the dream... but I don't know for sure if that is it or not. I've prayed for the interpretation, but haven't recieved one. (though I've never had a *prophetic* dream before these three, or since, there is distinct difference in this type of dream from other dreams... and with the first two I didn't even think of asking for an interpretation, but was given the interpretation after the events that the dream was forseeing took place). I believe this dream was saying that if my husband can't *save* our son or he isn't there to *save* our son, that he won't be saved... but I really don't know.
I've been praying for my husbands healing, I'm praying everyday for God to make me the wife my husband needs so he can heal and grow in righteousness. My focus is for our family to be healed and for us to be serving the Lord with our lives... but I also hope that if the time comes that our son needs his father to *save* him, that my husband will know where to seek help and strength, and that he will be whole, healthy and ready to do what needs to be done.

Ya' know the more I read this thread the more I remember about stuff I have dreamed.
The most recent dream I had was that my dh and I were on some big college campus and my youngest son was in a carseat-type carrier (we don't even have one of those and besides he is too old for one now). We went into an ice cream shop and set him down on a table near the door. Then we walked up to the counter to order some ice cream. I couldn't, for the life of me, make up my mind (not unusual) and took forever to order. Then next thing I know we are in the car driving down a beautiful tree-lined road, somewhere near the school, with beautiful old churches and libraries and such, on either side. We were going to meet my family, who had our other two kids.
So we are almost at the place where we were supposed to meet them and I suddenly realize that the baby is not with us. We had forgoten him at the ice cream shop. I was freaking out (an understatement)!!! But dh laughs at the idea that someone would take him and said he wasn't going back until I calmed down. It was like he was a different person, 'cause dh would never react that way. He pulls into a parking spot in front of the building where my family was waiting for us and I blurt out that if he won't take to find the baby then I'll get someone else to. I'm completely panicked by this time 'cause all I can think is that he was gone before we even left the ice cream shop. Because if we had left him alone for as long it took me to order, he would have started crying, and we didn't hear him crying so someone had already taken him by that time.
I jump out of the car as soon as it stops and run over to my mom who is talking with my sister and some other folks and my other kids are there, too. So I'm screaming, "Where's Dad! Where's Dad!" and momma points and run over to dad and I'm telling him I need to go back and find the baby when I wake up.
I was so upset that it took me quite a while to calm down. We went shopping for stuff for our vacation that day and I was so paranoid the whole time that someone would try to take my baby.

I'm one of those people that dreams ALLLLLL the time. Generally it's weird non-sense stuff, but I have had the occasionaly deeper dream that struck me as though it had some other meaning. I've not yet had one of them come true, or anything, but it seemed as though God was trying to show me something.
One particular dream I remember was from when I was a young girl. I had it several times and it was the most vivid dream I can ever remember having. I still remember it rather clearly, even almost 20 years later
I struggle with wondering what it meant/means because it involved my mom who died a few years after I had it
I still think of it and wonder. Perhaps I will never know?
Denim, WOW!! Those dreams you had are VERY frightening. That's amazing how God will reveal stuff like that to us!! I hope and pray that you are able to discover the meaning of the last dream, and I also hope that your dh is ready and willing when the time comes to step up to the plate. *hugs* to you!!

If anyone reading this has the gift of interpretation, please give me a PM if God has given you an interpretation of this dream. Please be aware that it will be sent to Gabe and Rebekah to pray over and *talk* to us about. My dh has given his consent for this post and the preceding post.
The first two dreams served as a great comfort to me during the trial we went through. It was as if God told me before hand that He knew what we were going through and that the sun would shine on us again and our family would be safe.

I have always wondered why is it that many ppl will have prophetic/meaningful type dreams but there is hardly ever any Godly ppl to interpret them?
I have been blessed cause one of my husbands cousins has the gift of dream interpretation. But she lives far away so I don't get to talk with her much but she is a neat godly lady.
It seems that as time goes on more and more ppl are having dreams and visions but there doesn't seem to be any Godly ppl to interpate those dreams and visions. Why do you suppose that is?

Last night I had a very disturbing dream that perhaps someone may have an opinion on. My husband said I was hitting, flopping about, scratching and carrying on in my sleep last night. I even elbowed him in the eye painfully. That is when he woke me up by talking to me. When he told me that I knew I had to have been moving about in my sleep because of a very disturbing dream I had. We talked about it. He is OK with me telling my dreams. He does not know what to make of this dream. Here is the dream:
(I had been at a family and friends reunion near a big old house in this small town and for whatever reason I wanted to go to this old house and became a part of its tour leaving the family reunion behind as I walk threw the thick tall pretty bushes.)
Something deadly and terrible had happened in this one small town. Many of the towns population were dead.
But to speak of what happened was never done. It was not to be spoken of. Only a few survivors remained and they had repressed memories of the horrid events. I was one of them but did not know it.
As time went on the towns population grew and life went on. The horrible event that took place had happened in this very old wooden multi roomed very large house. Now that the town was growing and starting to thrive again a group of conservative Christians took over that old building and cleaned it up and made plans to use it for Gods glory to help the needy and so on. There seemed to be a variety of Christian denominations supporting the effort.
After the repair and clean up work was done the Christan group started giving the towns people tours of the house. But 1st they blessed the house and thought it was cleansed of any evil. The house was not finished yet or decorated yet. It was just cleaned and looked old fashion and aged but repaired. It and the entire town had an old look to it like from the 1700s or the 1800s. The town was on a large wide river and the house was in close eye sight of the river. It was not a big giant town. Lots of pretty well kept tall bushes around the house.
The woman giving the towns 1st tour of the house was wearing very modest clothing( a skirt, blouse and one of those white head covering things that don't tie under the chin) She was excited to give the tour and tell about the plans for the house. A man was with her but he was silent. I was in that 1st tour.
The tour goes on. ppl are talking about how cool this place will be and how wonderful that someone has turned it into something for the good ( whatever that was).
I start having some repressed memories come to the surface of my mind during the tour. In my dream I was remembering bad stuff that had happened to me earlier in the dream when the evil events took place. The woman takes us into this one room and starts pointing and saying how this room will have such and such and be used for this and that. She tries saying what this room was used for in the old days.
When suddenly I look at one spot in particular in the room and point and say
"that is where it happened!"
As soon as I say that everyone looks at me. I then realize that I was one of the only survivors of the past events and I had just surfaced a repressed memory. Everyone in the group looks at me. And then their attention is drawn towards the spot I indicated because as soon as I said what I said a demonic being started appearing out of a small spot in the air and ripped the spot wide open to come out. It was beastly and horrid looking and brought with it a since of over whelming terror and fear. It moved its eyes about looking at us all. Ppl began screaming and flipping out. Trying to run and get out of that room. But the demon reached out and grabbed them . He was fat and repulsive looking with tenticle like things that reached out to ppl.
The demon was kind of pushed aside by a fiery light behind it in the hole in the air it made and more demonic beings came threw that hole but none as horrid looking as the 1st demon. He seeemd to be the main demon and the one in control. Blood appeared on the walls and so did a stench. I then realized that the room had somehow turned into what it looked like when the past events happened ( I'm still not sure what those events were but all I know is that whatever it was it caused me and my family to be on the run and that is how we got to this town). I could not smell the stench but I knew it was there.
As the demons were coming out of the hole ppl were yelling at me and saying that by me talking about the unspeakable it invited the evil to come back. That I should have not spoken of it. It some how opened a door way to evil to come in.
Ppl on the tour for whatever reason had some of their pet cats and dogs with them. The demonic beings began posessing the pets and the pets started acting savage. Ppl were running around the room trying to catch their beloved pets and were heartbroken that their pets were possessed. One man had a gun and said we should kill the pets. So everyone began auguring and debating wither or not the pets should be killed or exorcised.
While they were doing all that the main demon was killing ppl from the group. Screams. crying. Death sounds. Panic. Thick blood with ground or tore up tiny small body parts mixed in it and stuck on the walls and on the demon. The fear and terror was more then words can describe.
There was 2 ways to get out of that room with open wide double doors but still no one had enough since to run out those doors. Some ppl could not run out the doors because the demon had them in his grip. Others just stood by watching or screaming or auguring about their pets and other stuff. They blammed me. They argued over how to escape. The tour guide woman gets attacked by a demon but for some reason not killed like the others. She some how manages to run off out of those doors and into the other parts of the house screaming in terror. A demon goes after her. I don't know what happened to her after that. I hear her running and scream-talking telling what was happening to a group of her ppl who were downstairs and had started to come upstairs to see what the ruckas was. The man who had been with her was killed I think. I got the feeling that the demon got downstairs and to that womans group of ppl.
I kept saying something like
"in the name of Jesus stay away from me".
I prayed. I said it over and over and the demon did not get close to me but still I did not run out those doors. I don't know why. For some reason I could not get out those doors. But nothing blocked the doors other then an occasional demon but I did not want to go out those doors and into the other rooms anyways because I was afraid of being in that house. I did not want to go into any more rooms. But I could see into the one big room and it looked like nothing was going on in that room. It almost looked too inviting. A smaller demon was hovering by the door into that room smiling and pointing for me to try going in there. He watched me intently. His eyes were so real. They kept trying to invite me into that room. It did look peaceful in that room. No blood or gore in there. But I refused to go in there.
By this time suddenly my kids were with me. I don't recall them being with me in the 1st part of the dream. I take them to a window and instruct them to jump out of the window where a few bystanders was watching and listening to the kaos and screams. There was 4 or 5 windows in the room each with a pretty thin see threw curtain that was slightly blowing in the breeze. I choose one window at the end of the room behind the demon to use as our escape. The scenery out the window looked so beautiful with thick lush green grass and giant trees and bushes everywhere. I saw rolling hills and thick forrest and that wide winding river with big boats in it. It was so quiet outside, it was still. It wasnt right. I saw old homes. I dont recall seeing to many modern things.
All while I am doing this the demon is still killing ppl in this room but he cant touch me or my kids. Suddenly one of my dogs is with us and gets possessed. I have the kids wait by the window. They are hugging eachother and very afraid. They watch me go for my dog to find him possessed. I cant kill him, I love him. What do I do? I think. I watch him. I pray over and over. The kids started begging me to come help them out the window.
A man is screaming at me to kill my dog with his gun. The kids are pleading and crying to go out the window. No one else seems to want to go out the window. No one else seems to have enough smarts to even think about jumping out the window. Why only me? I see a possessed cat that is attacking others. Its owner is wailing and crying and confused. I keep praying and saying " in the name of Jesus .................".
Outloud I say something like " but Jesus can fix him!" ( meaning my dog, I had lost hope for that cat but my dog seemed to be in the begining stages of this possession)
I repeat " Jesus can fix him! ".
I insist on it. I hold the dog down as he is snarling and foaming. I pray over him. I don't know what happened to the dog because something ( I don't know what) happened for the worse and I know I must get out of the house so I get the kids out the 2nd story window and jump out the window myself to get to my kids. Then I am on the grassy beautiful shady lawn outside the window with my kids. It is a relief. I dont want to look behind me at that house and especially not at that window up there.
Me and the kids start walking off towards where the family and friends reunion had been. I want to get as far away from that house and town as I can. I get the since that I should be heading in what I presume to be the north. I look in that direction. The family and friends reunion was in what I presume to be the east.
I don't see my husband in the dream. But I since that he is near but cant find us.
The dreams go on from there but I don't remember much more then that. I know that me and the kids set out to find my husband. I just some how knew in the dream that the entire world was in an uproar. The country was in major upheavel and demonic forces were behind it.
NO I have not been watching or reading any scary stuff. I don't play around with cultic stuff and I don't mess with pagan junk. I say that because those always seem to be the 1st things a person asked when people describe dreams like that. Nothing drastic or real different is happening in my life. I am not sick. I am not on any medications other then my typical insulin. I am not currently taking any new herbs or supplements.
What do you suppose it all means?

This is really great. One of the best posts ever. "Prayer IS hard work. The only work with real results," Gabe says.
Fasting is strength in prayer, for us. It's "kicking your own butt" to help yourself listen better and hear what God has to say. It really cuts out the static: it's amazing what you hear when you're fasting. I love the Psalms during those times...
@ BJ: we'll pray on that...
In the meantime, if it's still too fresh in your mind... when I have a really BAD dream I ask God,
"please take away the power of this dream and replace it with your peace and truth."
Instantly it becomes a pallid unemotional memory that doesn't bother me anymore.
And oh, I down-sized your text a little bit... it was poking out my eyes.
<--- that's me with my blind-lady glasses on.

That is funny...I thought I was the only one that saw fasting as not "old fashioned" or religious. Actually, the two times that my prayers were stunningly answered were when I was fasting and praying with everything I had. I was desperate. I had no where else to turn. When the answers came, it was to the point where I had absolutely no doubt as to where it was from, and if it was "just me". It was like I had to strip (not clothing
). Like there were so much confusion, lies and fog in my brain that He couldn't get through. It made me realize how little I really know of the LORD. I don't know exactly how to explain it. I have so much more awe of Him after that, like I'm almost blaspheming by mentioning His name.
No dreams significant from me I don't think. Once I dreamed about the remainder of my family searching for food in an old building, but that was after reading something similar. My mind does that frequently.

Bj, when you talked in your dream about people getting angry at you for pointing out the hole where the demon was as if you had made the demon appear, it made me think of the story "The Emperor's New Clothes". It almost sounded as if the others on the tour also knew the truth but ignored it hoping that it/the demons would go away. That made me think of the Christians in America today and how many of them act as though demons or spiritual "warfare" is not real, even if they say it is real they do not act on that. Many Christians instead spend their time trying to find entertainment to keep themselves occupied while floating through their lives. It seems to me that Satan has it easy in America because we keep ourselves so entertained that we can ignore the spiritual world. Satan doesn't have to try to scare us or confuse us with another religion because we (as a culture) just don't believe in God or anything spiritual. Your dream reminded me of that- like the towns people had entertained themselves to the point of forgetting the truth of their history/past and by ignoring the elephant (or demon) in the room they could make it go away. Some of the people never knew the truth and some of the people had heard or knew the truth but had forgotten and no longer wanted to know the truth. I'm sorry if this is a bit off topic, but that just hit me so hard when I was reading your post that I felt like sharing. It was a good reminder to me as I often find myself "entertaining" myself with life issues that just don't matter when I really need to be worried about helping myself and others get to the next life.

Amy3js-
Wow and your post hit it on the head for me!
Thank you so much. It makes more since now it really does.
_______________________________________________
It sure does seem like we in the developed high tech countries ignore spiritual warfar. Your posts brought up lots of question for me. Your post made me think of some questions I have on demons and angels and all that. I think it is hard finding a good Godly person who can teach about spiritual warfar. One that is not nuts and thinks Mr Rogers and the local news anchor men are of the devil and here to abolish Christians. ( some Chrsitian materials I have read on spiritual warfare go to that extreme. I was floored when one said how Mr Rogers the beloved Chrisitan child hood PBS TV show was of the devil. I dont believe that one). But I do believe that evil weasels its way into our lives in many sly sneaky ways and we dont seem to see and believe it.
My many dreams seem to be a mix of the mind just simply playing its thoughts and memories out in a jumbled way, dreams that have meaning to them and dreams with prophetic meanings to them. I just wish it was easy to understand what they mean because much of the time I don't get their meanings. All of my life I have had dreams where there will be world kaos. Especially here in America. The children are missing. The handicap are missing. The elderly are missing. Mostly only those who can physically handle surviving, running and hiding are still here. And this kaos is inspired by evil forces. Not only evil human forces but actual evil forces from satan.
For me sleeping is like watching a movie all night long. I wake up in the night but when I go back to sleep the dream continues.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Last night I dreamed that I had to live in this old apartment building in an uninsulated wooden small room with a dusty chewed up single sized bed/mattress. NO bedding. No furniture. no electric , no heat no AC. Cob webs. No windows. No locks on the shabby door. Questionable types of ppl outside in the hall way. I was afraid as a female being alone in that room. But there was also many ppl in this building who understood the troubles of eachother and did not harm eachother.
Just a bare room with that nasty bed. A giant hole was chewed in the bottom of the door by rats and they would get into the small room I lived in. Out side there was many rich and poor folks. The rich seemed to go on in life ignoring the needs of the many poor ppl who lived in this run down rat infested apartment building.
The rooms had no toilets. One had to walk down a dark dusty thin hallway to get to the restroom that everyone shared. It was filthy.
I woke up thought about it and knew that dreams meaning. It had something to do with me being ungrateful for what I have because I have been flustered at how run down our place is and how we don't have the funds to fix up the place and it embarrasses me because I would like to have ppl over to visit more often but feel like I cant. It also served to remind me that a great deal of the worlds population lives with things like rats, dust, no electric and filth around them and there is nothing they can do about it.

That's the kind of dreams I usually have. The kind that speak to an issue in my life. I wake up knowing what it means. My husband has had a couple of these kind of dreams and I knew what the message was also. These dreams I can understand. Dreams of the future...don't have a clue. But then I guess there really isn't an "interpretation" to them.
Once many years ago I had a dream that my husband and I were living in bible times He had two wives me and another. The other wife and I lived together in "relative" peace. I didn't really like her but the situation was acceptable. Life was pretty good. However one day my husbands concubine (she was not his legitimate wife) pulls up in a sports car (dreams can be so wierd sometimes) and my husband joyfully jumps in and they laughingly drive away. All the while I'm desperately begging him not to go. The more I beg the more he tries to push me away.
When I woke up I knew exactly what God was telling me. The two women represented the issues I would deal with.

sorry to put this in two posts but I'm on a mobile and I run out of space.
So anyway the other wife represented the issue of my husband working many long hours and being gone alot because of it. I live in relative peace with this.
The concubine represents the alcohol in my husbands life. I don't live in peace with this. But just like in my dream the more I beg the more he pushes me away.
I have thought of this dream many times over the last 15 or so years. Do you suppose there is an answer to the problem there? One that I have overlooked?
One thing I've thought of recently is maybe I shouldn't fight so hard against it. Or maybe I'm fighting in the wrong way. The thing I remember was that the concubine offered him great appeal. And apparantly I was not competition to that.
Anyone have any further thoughts or interpretation?

Hi Beth,
I have zero experience in dealing with alcoholics, but I'm sure there are others here that have, and can offer some encouragement from experience.
When I read your dream, and your thoughts about it, it made me think of a very old couple that I've known my whole life... and I'd like to tell their story to you...
The man is of Irish decent; very hard working - to a fault - and is easily angered, but also very generous and very loyal. He has supported many widows and orphans in a completely unreligious way... because he served with their husbands and daddies in WWII. When he was young he was a border-line alcoholic. He liked to get drunk regularly and then fist fight and beat up some local jerk. He was particular about the type of men he wanted to beat up
.
His wife (a believer) was from a similar, rowdy, upbringing and did not see drunkenness as any big deal. She was just worried that he would get hurt, or hurt somebody badly enough to get himself thrown in jail. She knew he was high-strung and had to be doing something all the time. So, instead of trying to keep safely at home she "ran him ragged" by letting him know about all the friends that had called needing him to fix plumbing, cut firewood, etc... He liked to work, and she figured better the work than the fighting. Some folks could say that she sacrificed having a husband to keep her company in the evenings and on his day off... but I know she'd say that "oh, Bill
needs
to be out working... he just does!"
When he wanted a drink, she made sure she had plenty of liquor in the house so that he didn't need to go to a bar to drink. She cheerfully served him his whisky and cheese and crackers, put his feet up and took off his shoes, and put on his favorite TV show for him. He worked so hard that after one shot of whisky and that kind of comfort-treatment, he was sound asleep.
When he became a very old man with health problems that kept him from leaving the house to visit the widows of his war buddies, she let him drink as much as he wanted to stay peaceable and content at the house. He stayed drunk and asleep most of the time, but when I came to visit, he roused to talk and was as cheerful and content as could be.
Later their daughter moved in with them to take care of her elderly parents. She took away the old man's alcohol. He became constantly agitated, worried, angry and then violent. So, she put him on drugs instead.
Drugs are so much more "Christian", you know.
I'm not trying to justify the man's addiction to alcohol... just telling the story of one lady that "made it work" for her. She had a great life, and told people all the time how wonderful life was, and how great her husband was. He was one of the most productive men I've ever known. He was hyperactive, extremely social, and very emotionally high strung. Had he he been born in our generation he would have been on ritalin, or some other psychoactive to keep him from making such a huge difference in society. And for that particular Irish man, if it weren't for a glass of whisky from the hand of his own smiling wife, he might have died in a bar brawl and all those widows would have gone uncared for.
To keep this post from being a total hijack of the thread
... I guess my point is that if your understanding of the dream is that your response to your husband's addiction was working against you... driving him away... then maybe the dream is meant to help you seek a different course of action that does work. You seem to already be wondering that yourself... so, hence my long-winded story.

hmm...that's a lot to think about, Rebekah The man in your story sounds like my husband. Hardworking, almost hyperactive, and definately generous. My mom has often said "he'd give you the shirt off his back if he thought you needed it." and he is the hardest working man I know. I have seen him work til 1a.m. on a vehicle so he could get up at 5 a.m. to go to work.
Like I said alot to think about...I'll be praying. Thanks for your story and thoughts.

you know I've been doing a lot more thinking about the dream I had. Its funny but I've seen some things there I had never understood before.
As I think about the two wives in the dream, me and the one who would represent my husbands work, I thought of it in a way I never had all these years.
What if all he ever did in life was work and come home...as in not much enjoyment or just plain fun in life...
You know that might make it easy to be tempted, to feel the need to relax or take the stress off somehow.
So when that"woman in the sportscar" comes along... Home and work are no competition.
what Rebekahs post said shed some light too. What if he felt like he could come home and be able to relax instead of seeking it elsewhere. He doesn't drink around us at all.
We talked about all of this. And we are trying to change a few things. We're still praying. But my attitude is so different than its ever been before. I don't feel that desperation I always have.

This morning I had a dream- very upsetting dream- and I feel like sharing it and where better than here?
many things had already happened in the dream, but I think they were insignificant- like two dreams melting together or something. So the beginning: I had walked and driven past a little house on our street many times. I knew that is was owned by a single women and I was pretty sure she was of the homosexual persuasion. She was, however, being foreclosed on and was in the process of packing. As she was packing one day and I was walking by she began to tell me that a middle eastern foreigner man had told her that the economy was getting better because they were issuing yearly stimulus packages. But she had never received one or heard of it so she doubted it would apply to her and she was very upset as she was a hard working women who could not afford to keep her home and yet others who were not citizens or barely citizens were being taken care of by the government. She also had 2 hugely long portable metal storage trailers (think like on a train- those box like things you see- but much much longer) one was longer than the other, and that is where she had a lot of stuff stored because she had moved into her current tiny house from a much larger one and didn't have room for all her stuff and had been keeping them in these and letting these sit by her home. But because she was moving she had moved them a few street/driveways over to right next to our home and left them in people's parking spots. I don't think she knew it was our home, she just put them in the first open area that was big enough for them. They worried me because they had government type emblems on them. I had the feeling that the economy, despite appearances, was falling and in bad shape.
As my husband and I walked down the road and past our house, we were discussing if we should do anything about these storage containers and if we should be worried about them and all the sudden we looked ahead and in the sky, but right in front of us, were two planets and maybe the moon. At first I thought that we were seeing mars as really bright and I thought "how beautiful! How lovely to see something so spectacular!" I was vaguely aware that there was more in the sky than mars and the moon, but it was so huge that I did not realize it at first. Then I pointed to the one next to it and said "what is that? and what is that around it?" and right as I said it I began to realize we were seeing actual planets and how huge the planets really were and my husband said " that is Jupiter and those are its rings" and I could tell from his voice that he was in terror as he realized the situation before I did. I knew that the planet next to the ringed one was mars because it was red and I could see every detail on it. I could see what looked like continents, but they looked like they were melting and everything was bright red, the continents were the brightest. The planet with the rings was so huge, I felt I could have reached out and touched it and mars was only a little farther away and I began to feel a fear I have never felt, like the ringed planet was quietly and slowly getting near and was going to crush us. It was so huge. Then we looked to the right of us and there was another planet that was rushing/falling towards the earth and as it got near, the earth and houses and everything just burst into flame and everything started to burn and at that same moment, molten lava burst out of the street behind us and began to flow downhill towards the burning. My husband and I began to run home to get our daughter and I knew we needed to run away from the planets and maybe towards the hills. And here I woke up and I was so afraid when I woke up and this is only the second time I have ever been that afraid of a dream in my life.
I wish I could explain the awesomeness of the planets and how dreadful they were. When I woke up and told my husband my dream he believed at first that the one with the rings was Saturn, but then I told him that in my dream HE told me it was Jupiter and so that seemed odd to him. I'm not sure what they were, but they were scary! I have never before appreciated the laws of the universe and how God keeps everything in place and in order. If it were not for his laws, we would all be dead. And a very horrible death. Has anyone else ever had a dream like this?
