Well, I bought the SAME shoe thing that khix showed.  I found mine at Meijer's.  So far, I am LOVIN' this idea.  I don't know why I didn't think of it before.  Thanks everyone! Wink

Ok, new question!   Cheesy

How do you all store your books?  I'm sure for bigger kids bookshelves work, but what about for preschoolers and toddlers who can't read the spine of the book or flip through upright books as well?
Right now I have them standing up in a basket and a few boxes.  Any other ideas?

We're real fussy about how books are treated.   Dh and I were raised with a respect for books and tried to pass it to our children.   One of the things that we found that worked well for us was to limit the number of books that were readily available to them until school age.   I kept most of the books put away and kept a limited number out where they could be read and looked at.    I have used plastic bins, baskets, and shelves.  I think that I liked the basket best, as it looked nice and gave a specific spot to put books away in.  Then I would rotate the books once or twice a month or depending on interest.

We have large bookcases in the family room, so the little one's basket was just kept on the floor near the bookcases.   Library books were/are kept on the hall table or in cloth book bags so that there are no lost or misplaced books.

We just kept their board books/ easy reader / picture books on the lowest shelves.  Paperbacks seemed to get warped and bent up sitting in baskets.  It never stopped my toddlers (and even crawlers) from picking out books to look at.  Just don't pack them do tight so they can move them around some and see the fronts.  Although sometimes it did mean reshelving a whole bunch of books because they "read" them all.  The nicer the book the farther up the shelves they are stored.

Library books are stored in a basket by the door and I check what's on the library cards online regularly so I know if one has gotten lost somewhere (usually in someones bed).

Sorry, I wasn't much help for new ideas!  I have considered, but never had room for, one of those shelves that you can put books on flat so you can see the fronts.  That would be great for toddlers and easy to reshelve.

A front facing book case could be made really easy.  Since it is front facing it wouldn't have to be really deep either.  Here's a place that has a lot of idea's to work with... http://www.ronjuneshop.com/childrensfurniture-kidsbookcases.html?pageNum=2

One sheet of cabinet grade plywood and some dowels would go a long way in making something really nice.
