Well I have read through this thread and still, I don't understand what the continental divide has to do with a national crisis (terrorist attacks, nuclear bombs, etc).  Am I missing something?  Huh

This is a really good book.  We have had it for several years, now.  Hubby has always talked about building a "fallout" shelter, but you know how men can be with projects!  Cheesy
We have been trying to move out of the country for the past two years, as we don't feel it is going to be safe much longer in the U.S., but I have this really odd feeling that God wants us here to witness to as many people and kind of.....go down with them. Undecided

We have been trying to move out of the country for the past two years, as we don't feel it is going to be safe much longer in the U.S., but I have this really odd feeling that God wants us here to witness to as many people and kind of.....go down with them. Undecided

I figure if something like a terrorist attack/war happens here on American soil that there wont be any place safe anyways so why bother moving somewhere else? Because the next major war will most likely be a world wide war and there wont be many places left on earth that will be safe. And 'they' know that ppl run for the hills mountains now a days so even those places wont be safe.

If I survive the initial attack then perhaps God can use me and my family for His glory as well. I figure if we are hiding out 24/7 we arnt helping anyone but ourselves. But IMO a safe hide out would be nice just to survive the worse part of the attack. If we could afford to build one I bet my husband would do it just to have fun reliving his army days making cool features to it.

But whatever the case may be life on this earth is only temporary anyways so we arnt going into debt trying to build under ground fall out shelters so that we might survive and then get all kinds of hideous diseases/sicknesses later on. I just have to leave it in Gods hands. All we can do is what we can do and leave the rest up to God.

All I know is that IF I am understanding my dreams correctly they have fortold of this for as long as I can remember. The old, the children and the handicapped will either be taken by whomever or killed off mostly. But I have a feeling God is going to help His kids.  Wink He does in my dreams at least.  Wink

I wonder if the cancer stats have anything to do with the pesticide stats?
If  you look at the at the four corner lines between NM, AZ, UT, and CO.... that's pretty close to where we are at here, right on the Continental Divide.

@ BJ and HIO: Yes, people are going to need you! You know a lot of stuff people don't know anymore... I'm not saying it's more righteous to leave or stay... you gotta do what God calls your man to do... like Noah's wife. There is safety in obedience.

That's what I was thinking...with a few exceptions, there seems to be a correlation.

I was also thinking about the alkalinity of the ground watter. We live in a hot spot for colon cancer in under 50  Sad  (my wife is 36 and she got colon cancer). Oddly enough, there is another hot spot in the North West corner of Arizona, that's  got me wondering if there is something unique to the geology, like no limestone etc., that could play a part.

Where I live, there is very little row crop farming and mostly trees and cow farms and I'm right next to a huge National Forest. Mostly sandstone and clay, no limestone, I have to lime my fields regularly.

I was reading something lately that made me think of this thread.
Miso (a fermented bean)provides protection against exposure  to radiation and heavy metals.
A dr. who treated survivors at Nagasaki and ate miso bean soup every day(his staff also) they never experienced any radiation sickness.
this is something you can make yourself. You need a starter culture called Koji. You can get this through G.E.M. Cultures.
Only drawback is it takes a year to ferment! But you only need a small amount to flavor the soup. 3 tablespoons per quart. And that amount is supposed to prevent radiation sickness.
anyway thought you all might be interested.

OK, so I have dried food. The nuke. war has already started, and I am at loss as to what to do because I am

1. Away from home. I am working @ the grocery store
2. I have dried food, an old fashioned gun with ammo., some water, and a general map of the area in my backpack, along with a battery opporated small radio. These are stored in my car.
3. Short term survival is on everyone's mind. I alone am thinking of long term, of what is safest to do. I am torn. I know that my Dad is too thinking only of short term, but I am scared. Should I run (drive) to him, or hide in the near hills?
4. How do I prepare my dried goods?
5. I have never defended myself before. Only shot a long hunting gun for practice a few times last year. Should I keep my gun loaded and on me? Or should I keep it hidden until I am out in the open, away from the town?
6. The road towards my house runs right by the airport. Should I be worried? Should I try to take a back road? Should I look into a back roads map for my backpack?
7. I am praying. I know that God is the wisest Person in heaven and earth. I thank Him for the forwarnings from those sent before me. I know His will will be done, and I am scared and excited. I am numb at the moment to what will be reality in the future. I can only see the mountain tops of the future, the main events likely to happen, and not the valleys in between of time. I wonder about my sister up in college. I wonder how she is surviving. I weep for her, for some odd reason.

Can anyone here help me with some advice before all this happens (might happen)? I don't have half of what I say (above) I have, but I could. I have savings. I feel like there is so little time to prepare, but I am not sure what to do first. I think I need to review some comfort verses, so I'll say good bye to you dear friends and thank you in advance for whatever you may provide in wise counsel.

Blessings,

Anyone have No-Rad pills?  They are pills that contain iodine and they keep your thyroid from taking in radioactive iodine, in the event a nuclear bomb going off.

natural girl,
someone earlier in this thread said there is safety in obedience. Your father is your head. Obey him and feel safe!
let me tell you a couple of stories. Iwatched a show about haulocaust once. A woman was telling her story. She was a young girl (maybe your age) when the germans invaded her country. They were jewish and jews were slowly being rounded up. One Sunday afternoon the family decided to go for a walk. Her father tells her to wear her snow boots and to bring her coat. She is confused because it is July! But she obeys him. While they are on their walk they are picked up and taken to concentration camps. That winter in freezing temperatures this young girl is forced to walk many weeks on what many came to call a death march. Many froze along the way. She credits her survival with her father telling her to wear her snow boots and coat!
also you should read Corrie Ten Booms "the hiding place". God provided for in so many ways. Trust God. Trust Him to use your father.

Thank you beth. I talked with my mom yesterday and she said the same thing. Sigh. I think I am the slowest person alive to learn this. I just hate the thought of being alone with my nonchristian coworkers when/if this happens. I am going to have a talk to my Dad soon as to what he thinks would be best how to handle my "what if" situation. Should've done that instead of panicing here  Embarrassed. It isn't a light thing to say that "Jesus is the answer for the world today", and that under Him, "Dad is the answer for my world today" Smiley

Yes, we do.  We got them from here:

http://www.ki4u.com/

They also have a lot of information about how to survive a nuke in the link near the top of that website (what to do if a nuclear disaster is imminent), and they sell other survival products.  The same company also sells a radiation detector that you can hang on a keychain (expensive, but very useful if the need should ever arise):

http://www.nukalert.com/

The owner of that company is apparently a Christian:

Well now, I want yall to know that because of this thread and because of what went on  during 9-11 I had a small freak out session a little bit ago.  lol. Wink Cheesy

Because suddenly over the TV came an alarm and words that said something like   "civil emergency"

I have never heard an alert like that. I was thinking it might have had something to do with terrorist attacks or something like that.

It said something about how 3 or 4 different counties do not have phone service because someone cut an important phone wire or something like that.

Fearful paranoia can sure spread easily.

boy oh boy, do they. Especially among women... Tongue I was just listening to a tape about history. The guy is astonishingly accurate--I've looked into some of his [historical] claims, and they all pan out. (I could give the name, if you want, but don't want to get off subject too much...) One was about the witch "burning" in the 1700's, right around the tea party time, I believe. The false claims and fear originated in the US from mainly single, young women, who convenced this pastor (his daughter and niece were heavilly involved) of "satanic" doings. That is just the small story, to keep it short, but it was a huge "bell" in my brain.  What a blessing it is to be under, not over, the authority given to us!  Smiley Smiley Smiley

Here's a few more maps related to nuclear fallout:

http://www.ki4u.com/transpacific.htm

http://www.webpal.org/d_resources/list.htm

In the second link, you can click on your state and also scroll down to the bottom of the page for some nationwide maps.  The fallout lines on the FEMA map are based on likely nuclear targets.

Also, the nuclear preparedness manual at ki4u.com has instructions on how to use tincture of iodine to protect babies and anyone else who can't swallow pills or does not have the KI pills.

Hey everybody!

Here's your official invite to come and see part of the Great Divide, October 3 - 5, 2008. Main events are the 3rd and 4th (Friday and Saturday). "Events" being to drive and see the area, and visit the Navajo Flea Market which is a fun to-do out here. There are already going to be 4 - 6 families here during that weekend so we decided to make it an official 7xS and WTM gathering. For more details on where to camp/stay and directions, please PM us. Hope some of you can make it!

Canada?  My husband and I were discussing the fact that we live right beside several military bases... and going further north wouldn't be a great idea either...

So we're looking at the Yukon territory of Canada in the event that we needed to quickly relocate....

Anybody know anything we should know about Canada?   Undecided

You could read the book "Mrs. Mike"
It's good and gives you an idea what frontier life is like in Canada.

We are hoping to go but we're not sure if we will be able to. DH is changing jobs (THANK YOU, LORD- see my praise HERE) & starts the new job Sept 29th. We're not sure about the $$$ with the money logistics that result when you change jobs or taking Friday off for that matter when he just started the job. DH would love to go himself but he would let me go by myself if I had a way to go.

We would love for it to work out for us to go as well. I'm dejunking & now that I know for sure that we will be in this house for a while I am getting rid of everything we don't need. With everything that had been going on with the old landlord, etc for quite a while there we didn't know for sure where we would would be living & we were kinda hanging on to some stuff not knowing if we would need it or not. So if everything sells quickly we may be able to swing it. So pray that all my stuff sells quickly & for a good price.  Wink Grin
