some things I hope to make are:
1.Those rice filled heating pads you can warm inthe microwave
2. Body Bars
3. Bath salts
4.This is technically not homemade, but I am buying fleece blankets for my boys and sewing on all their cub scout patches and patches we collect on trips
5. I'm making a scrap book for my daughter
I'm looking for more ideas!!!

I thought I would revive this thread, as I just made some very yummy homemade lemon salt bath scrub for gifts and was looking for other ideas. Anyone have anything to add?

I have been meaning to look for this thread, thanks for reviving it mrs. b! So far this year I have made some:
lavender soap (just the meltdown glycerin- which I found for $2- the oil and buds)
crazy crayons (melted old broken crayons in heart, triangle and flower shaped tins and molds)
cotton muslin kitchen towels with embroidered designs
halfway through a loom knitted scarf/hoodie combo
caramels
felt finger puppet dolls
I also plan to make some drawstring bags with felt monkeys stitched on the front, hopefully more and different dolls and a skirt for myself (maybe!) .
But I need some more ideas. Especially for men. Other than hat, scarves or gloves. Any ideas?

Amy,
the guys in my family love homemade foods and remedies. Here are some gift ideas I'm tossing around this year:
Basket of snacks:
Jar of hot mustard (all homemade... most recipes found in Nourishing Traditions)
Jar of honey mustard
Jar of sauerkraut
Jar of pickled turnips or pickles
A few tins of Sardines
Toasty seed crackers (also in NT but I can't find it now??? I probably have the wrong name)
Tin of homemade cookies
Basket of Health:
Bilberry Tonic
Sleep Sweet Tonic
Sore Muscle Rub
Chapped skin salve
Spicy Tea blends and a mug.
Comfort Basket:
Bath Salt Blend
Massage Oil
Skin Salve
Soaps
Tea and Mug
A Tisket A Tasket A Yummy Treat Basket:
Two to Three 1/2 pints of homemade Jams
Whipped Honey Butter
A fresh loaf of Wheat bread
Fresh loaf of Banana Bread
Cookies or Brownies
Tea blends and a mug.

I'm making little bags of "Stove Top Potpourri" - Equal parts whole cloves, whole allspice, whole coriander, cinnamon chips, dried orange peel, dried lemon peel. Also, cinnamon raisin bread. DD is making bracelets, pot holders, and framed pictures (poems/verses that she illustrated).
We're having fun!

I thought is was a Southern thing... but if so, then you would surely know about it.
You put honey and butter, equal parts or heavier on the butter, (and cinnamon powder if you like) in your mixer and whip it until it is kind of stiff and blondish. I've never heard of anyone else doing this, but you can also make molasses butter or sorghum butter the same way. This is great with cornbread.

I did up 8x10 scrapbook pages with stickers and other accessories surrounding a picture of the kids/family for grandparents. I bought dollar store frames and put the whole page in. The great-grandparents don't really need anything but love pictures. They are also easier/lighter to mail then some food stuffs.
If you have the capabilities and they have a DVD player or computer you could make a slide show of pictures and sounds of the kids singing, telling stories etc for family.
You could can jars of chili or stew for the bachelors in the family. I did some turkey soup (just add noodles) for a new mother recently.
I am working on a coffee basket for the in-laws. It will have their favorite gourmet coffee, creamer, some cookies, a candle, and a few single pot variety coffees.
The nieces and nephews mostly just got gift cards, but I did do some matching hat and scarves for the young ones.

I am considering making personalized aprons. Came across this site that had a collection of links for different free apron patterns. I thought others might could use it.

I searched WTM, but didn't see it. Does anyone know how to make this? I've never actually made my own salve/lotion/rub before, but I would love to and I like the name of this one.

I have posted about making liniments (sore muscle rubs) on WTM a few times & there's several threads that have different recipes so probably the easiest way to find at least most of them would be to do a search for liniment as the key word & herbalmom as the user.
Also do a search using sore as the key word & Search in topic subjects only checked.

"Gifts-In-A-Jar"....You layer the ingredients in a mason jar and top with fabric, tied with string or yarn. I used twine. You can handwrite attached cards with the recipe or run them off on business card size on the computer. Typically I do soups in a jar. I have a cookie recipe that used a quart size mason jar to go along with a soup recipe in a pint sized jar. I start in the Fall and stack them on the pantry shelves so I have a gift ready when needed. A Soup jar with a loaf of bread or muffins in a gift basket is a great gift. I get baskets at the thrift store when I see them. You can buy things like peanut butter and pasta sauce and save the jars they come in.

I'm making a batch of cranberry jam that I'll can in small jars for the Aunts and Uncles in the family. Once I get them canned and cooled, I'll have my DD smear the outsides with irridescent glitter-glue and then I'm going to print out a short poem and tie it to the jars with ribbons. May decoupage a pic of DD to the top of the lid too if I get around to it.
For my Uncle, he's getting a jar of pickled habeneros - my home-grown super-hot habaneros! lol
