the trophy wife syndrome? What culture? Africa?
In america I could see if you include divorce and remarriage as actually being multiple wives. Which I guess it is. They just don't all live together.

Could it have something to do with the "trouble in the flesh" thing mentioned in 1 Corinthians 7?

Beth,
Now I am laughing...  Cheesy  Not because the topic of the post is funny... but just because I am pretty sure (??) it pertains to something on another thread -- but I haven't seen the original comment, so don't have ANY clue what came before this - LOL!    Grin

I agree... I'm very confused.  But I do have a friend who is looking for a position as a trophy wife... her definition may not be quite the same though....

Ahhh.  Found it.  It was mentioned on the "Polygamy in History" thread.  I always thought the term was for older men (any country), during the so-called midlife crisis, who were searching for a "s*xy", young wife with big bossoms to parade around.  <grin>

Andy'sDad here, to explain himself.

Mrs. Hope quoted Genesis 6:1, the reading of which immediately reminded me of the TWS. Here were the Sons of God taking "all the beautiful women they desired." This is, of course, the fantasy of every red-blooded male living in the flesh.  Most men, however, never come close to achieving this ideal--either because polygamy is illegal in their state, or because they can't afford more than one woman at time, full-time.

The Trophy Wife is a young, beautiful woman who marries a man who wants her for her body, while she wants him for his money. Part of the definition implies that he already had another wife by his side during the years he was amassing his fortune, but now he's managed to get rid of her and gone searching for the Latest Model.

Inherent in being a Trophy Wife is the realization that once an even Newer Model becomes available, she will be sent out to pasture (according to the generous terms of the prenup, of course) and replaced with someone even younger.  In this way wealthy men often go through four, five, or even six wives before they, too, finally expire.

Having lived in a polygamous culture a couple of times, I certainly see a lot of parallels to polygamy, but I won't go into them since this isn't the polygamy thread.

so...I'm curious once again. Go on over to the polygamy thread and tell us some of what you learned. (if you don't mind)
by the way TWS was a little different than I thought. It was about men divorcing and remarrying. Not being satisfied with the wife of his youth I guess you could say. That's really sad especially for his first wife who was his helpmeet while he was making all that money!

I don't think there is any "Polygamy Thread" yet, and I'm reluctant to start one until things have settled down from the present shakeup.

But I will have some things to say once it is up and running.

If that's any incentive for some disgruntled members to hang in there a few more weeks, good!

I guess I was referring to the Polygamy in History thread but maybe that isn't exactly the "polygamy" thread. I'll look forward to your insight in the future.

My post above was in reference to the polygamy in history thread too...  a question was posed as to why elders and deacons should have only one wife... I can't find that question now, but I thought it might have something to do with the "trouble in the flesh" part of I Corinthians 7.

 Huh  I'm so confuzzled...  Tongue

Silly chatter:

The man who made all the money? And the wife who gets thrown away in favor of the curvy young thing?.... Huhm! Not at our house!  My husband and I have worked very hard (with God's help!) at becoming poor, and I have had to work very hard also to become his Trophy wife so that he wouldn't have to go find one! I stole his syndrome away from him!! Tongue  Wink  I can't take the credit, though. It was really his idea, and has saved us no telling how much money!  Grin

It's great to hear we've got so many here that are working to be a trophy wife!   Cheesy

That said, I'm gonna wave the red Back on Topic flag here.

It'd be great to see a thread under Sarah's Daughters that discusses how to be a Trophy Wife.  I don't go there much, so something like that may already exist!   Huh

Thanks!
