I am going through this study. Thank you for all the work you put into it. My question is about the beginning of the study. You go to great length to establish that there were only Israelites in the Ephesian church. The part I'm confused about is Act 19:10. You summarize it by saying all the Israelites heard the word of the Lord, both Jews and Greeks. Every version I've looked at says, All of Asia, both Jews and Greeks.

I'm not a Calvinist. I'm not trying to debate you. This issue of election has caused me so much sadness and confusion. I truly want to no what God's word says. Thank you so much for the hours you've put into this. Leslie

 Hello Leslie,

Thank you so much for your question.

The verse reads:
“... so that all they which dwelt in Asia heard the word of the Lord Jesus, both Jews and Greeks.”

The verse is giving information that addresses the geographical parameter of influence Paul's teaching had (ie Asia) in the context of the Ephesus church. But it also confines that influence to a specific people group/groups. The people group/groups was my intended focus.

The author says , “all they which dwelt in Asia....”. He then goes on to identify the “ALL” to which he references as being, “...both,  Jew and Greek.”
In the statement the author does not leave the meaning of “all” up for speculation. Rather he clearly identifies his intent by use of the words “both Jew and Greek”, and therefore doesn't  allow the reader to assume that his reference would include anyone outside that group/groups.

Footnote #2 is an attempted explanation of why i coupled “both Jews and Greeks” into the single group Israel.

So my use of the word “Israelites” was not for the purpose of replacing the word “Asia”.  i was not attempting to address or change the authors reference to geographical location, rather, my reference to “Israelites” was directed toward the seemingly common bloodline of both  Jew and Greek in this context.

Hopefully this will answer your question. If not please feel free to inquire further.

Thank you for spending the time to consider and chew my words, and mostly for searching the scripture to see if the things i say are so.  It is refreshing and encouraging.

It is my prayer that God will remove any confusion, replace sadness with breathless hope, and bless your pursuit in spirit and in truth to know what His word actually says.
