Can someone please explain this?  In Matthew 26 the Bible says Now the first day of the feast of unleavened bread....Where wilt thou that we prepare for thee to eat the passover....and they made ready the passover....he sat down with the twelve.

Then, in John 19 verse 14 says and it was the preparation of the passover??? This is during the trial of Jesus which would be after he had eaten passover right??  We don't understand this.

Can anyone explain this?  Our family discussed it this morning and my husband gave permission for me to ask this question here.

Thanks

Basically, it appears that Jesus and his disciples celebrated Passover a day earlier than the Priests. This way, Jesus could actually be dying on the cross as Our Passover just as thousands of Passover Lambs were being slaughtered in Jerusalem.

To this day, Jews celebrate the Passover two nights in a row. The reason for this is that those who were more than two week's travel from Jerusalem had to guess which day the month had started in Jerusalem in order to get the right day. Since there was about a day's leeway in the sighting of the New Moon two weeks earlier, they would celebrate Passover twice just to be sure of getting it right on at least one of those nights.

The priests in Jerusalem were the ones who officially sighted the New Moon to set the calendar for each month.
