Here is a translation I find very intriguing... I just found today! Why oh why don't they have an electronic version...  Oh, I guess they have one for e-sword... Genesis only.

The amazing thing about this translation is that it is extremely literal, proposes tense and construction, and gives actual name meanings for proper names. This would be an excellent parallel Bible for the KJ text.

Anyway, here is the Revised Mechanical Translation (should rather be called the Simplified Mechanical Translation, IMO) of Genesis (only... boohoo)... very cool.

Wow - I skimmed through the first few chapters of Genesis, this is actually pretty cool.  I usually find non-KJV texts confusing due to me having memorized so much of the KJV, but this one hit me differently.  Don't really know how to describe it...

I guess that a gloss like this one (I don't see it as a translation, strictly speaking) would be useful for those who want to get as close to the form of the original as possible but can't read any Hebrew. It's kind of like what Darby and the Amplified Bible tried to do. However, I find that as a translation it's kind of lacking. A translation should be transparent to the meaning and style of the original, and clear and natural in the target language. This one, as the name implies, is "mechanical"--it's not doing what a skilled translator could do.

But as I said, I guess it could be useful if you don't know Hebrew well. Just my opinion.

Yeah... right, I think I completely agree with you... and since (IMO) there are issues with all the English translations (since, as I see it, they are mostly all weak if / when the KJ is weak...) a "mechanical" translation like this should (if it is correct... here's hoping...) give better footing to those of us that do not read Hebrew. I would especially like to see Leviticus and Deuteronomy in this construction...
