Several of my dc have had the flu.  My dd, I think, has tonsilitis now.  I couldn't get her in to the doctor until maybe tomorrow.  Do you think it would be okay to try garlic?  If so, how much, etc?   Thank you.

If she is old enough to take a clove of garlic, I'd give her a clove about every 2-3 hours.

I'd definitely use GOOT on  her armpits and feet if she's too small to swallow a cut up clove of garlic.

If you have it or can get it, I'd use myrrh- preferably as a tincture. That's what I used for oldest DS when he had tonsillitis after 2 rounds of abx didn't clear it up & they were about ready to yank his tonsils. Dr had proscribed a 3rd round but obviously didn't expect them to work. I gave up on the abx & used myrrh instead- this was 20 years ago, I was new to herbs & it was about the only infection fighter I had on hand. Later I found out that it's one of the best for infected, swollen glands & it was one of the best herbs I could have used.  Cleared it right up & the Dr was very surprised when he went back for a recheck. Never did tell the Dr what I used.  Wink HTH Blessings ~herbalmom

She is eleven.  I really don't have anything except garlic here, and wouldn't have any way of getting anything until payday.  I would love to try those herbs, though.  So, for the garlic, she would swallow a cut up garlic clove?

Some folks put it into a spoon full of honey to help it go down.  All my kids just throw it back and swallow...except the 2 yo who chews it up first.  Shocked

Also, if you happen to have stevia, it is reported to have an affect on strep.  I might have her drink some tea with stevia to sweeten it, or even gargle with a little water with stevia.  Also, gargling with a garlic tea or just drinking a garlic tea will help kill the bacteria in the throat.

Our family used an ACV gargle a few weeks ago and it worked really well.  Since it works for sore and strep throat, I thought it should have the same effect on tonsilitis.

1.) Mix together 1 Tablespoon Real Apple Cider Vinegar with 6-8 oz. water
2.) Take a tablespoon of the mixture, gargle with it and spit it out.
3.) Immediately take another tablespoon, gargle and swallow.
4.) Every hour thereafter, take another tablespoon, gargle and swallow.

Hope you're feeling better soon!  Smiley

Edit to add:  we added some honey (to taste) to this.  Soothing and more palatable.  Wink
