About gender being hereditary, oh my goodness it's so hard to believe it's NOT when you have situations like with you, where you have 4 boys. I have 2 cousins who have 5 children each, all girls. It's just like...what are the chances? I don't know though, maybe it is all still just a 50/50 chance each time. It's easier to understand if I believe that lol.

The gender is determined by the sperm...there is some interesting info to research on that. Like, you have more chance of it being a boy if you have intercourse just after ovulation, whereas there is more chance of it being a girl if you had intercourse a few days before ovulation. The male-determining sperm are faster, but they die quicker. The female-determining sperm are slower, but endure for longer. Very interesting stuff.

You know, I have been hearing that for years... and I know that people use this technique to try and get the desired gender.... I've even read it in one or two Christian based books...The article I read most recently about this was written by some harvard professors I believe. While they did not mention God, what they wrote made the most sense to me. They said that timing of intimacy makes only a small difference. This is something that I have believed for a very long time, especially after hearing of so many attempts to try for a certain gender, and how they often fail...God is still in control! Smiley

There are a lot of things that go into it. God obviously has control over all. But besides timing with the sperm issue, there are other factors that play into it, like diet and lifestyle that determine how the male/female sperm perform. I just think it's very cool how God created everything down to the details and how we are still trying to figure it out after thousands of years. Ha!

Hi HN, thanks for asking. Smiley

Doing ok. I'm getting fat and the baby is growing pretty well. Today is my second to last day in Austin. My brother's comign from Kansas to help move me and all my stuff (furniture, etc.) to Kansas, and then in a week I'll be flying to England.

Also next week I have an appt. with my new Kansas OB and maybe will find out the sex of the baby.  Grin My husband is still looking for another job in England. It's been going very slow. But he has an interview tomorrow which is promising.

Update: It's a GIRL!!!  Grin

I was absolutely shocked at the ultrasound when the tech told us. Me and my mom were in the room, my mom looked at the picture and she was like..."oh yeah, those are the clearest girl parts I've ever seen!" I was actually surprised by how shocked I was lol. I started crying from surprise? happiness? It was actually pretty silly, since of course I never actually knew for sure before now. I just--for some reason-- was sooo convinced that it was a boy, for the past 4 months I've been thinking about this baby as a boy and referring to her as "he"!

But we're thrilled. The baby looks fine, although she's measuring a week bigger than what we had originally thought. New due date is July 30.

Yay!  Girls are so much fun.  I'm sure boys are too, but since I don't have any I only know that girls are such a blessing!

I did the same thing Andiclare, I felt sure that DD was a boy until the ultrasound told us different. Smiley  Don't know why some people "know" and the rest of us don't. Smiley

Regarding due date: Mine was about 9 days ahead of schedule as well. I am going to talk to my doctor about this, because I really don't believe this is accurate.

Yay!  Congrats AndiClaire.

I always know for sure it's a girl when it's a girl, but I'm always confused on boys... so I guess I would know for sure if I just recognized that it's a boy if I don't know what it is.   Tongue Cheesy  Huh

HN, well I'm totally comfortable sharing.  Grin It's hard to get time to get to the computer here as much as before.

But, ok so I'm here for 6 weeks, entering week 3 as we speak. It's been an adjustment, I didn't like it at all at first. I just missed America. I was homesick and my husband ended up taking me to the McDonald's to make me feel better LOL. And I used to mock people who went to the American places when they're abroad! Still do miss the States, to be honest. But I love being with my husband after all this time, and I love his family. They couldn't be nicer or more welcoming. And who knows when I'll ever be back to this beautiful country, so I'm going to enjoy it.

Let's see...the food, I don't like so much EXCEPT for the fish and chips, which is excellent. This town is right on the North Sea, so the fish is always really fresh, caught the day it's eaten I believe. I've only lived in the land-locked southwest and midwest USA before this so I always thought I didn't really care for fish. OR I'd drown it in tartar sauce. Here, it's just so nice. The chips are great as well. (That's french fries for those who don't know.  Wink) MUCH better than fast food fries. My MiL has a chip pan on her stove which is like a little deep fryer, so they come out perfect. My morning sickness has abated which is great, but I'm still not able to handle some of the more exotic British foods. Like oxtails, yorkshire puddings, etc. I blame my pregnancy for the finiky-ness lol. The toast is great too, that's what we have every morning for breakfast. The bread is really soft and thick, and the butter is called Irish butter. It sort of has the consistency of margerine, but it's 100% fresh butter. Anyhow, those are the main highlights, food-wise. I know most people are usually interested in the food.  Grin I am anyways. The land is beautiful, it's like something out of the Lord of the Rings movies. Very green, almost unreal. You can literally see the North Sea from almost anywhere in town. If I can remember how, maybe I'll post some pics of the sea when I get them!

Meanwhile I'm getting bigger every day. Hope all of y'all, epecially thinking of the other pregnant moms, are doing ok. God bless! Smiley

Hi Andiclare!

I'm from Texas and looove Austin and now live in Kansas!   Your folks are from here right?
Well, I lived in England for 4 years and then moved to Japan for 6 so we were out of America for 10 years straight.  I know how hard it is to get use to a new country, the funny thing is that I am having the hardest time getting use to living in America again!LOL

England was absolutly beautiful.  I loved the town centers where everyone would go for the Saturday shopping.  Tescos was my favorite grocery store, the fresh bread and cheddar cheese still makes our mouths water to this day.  We would go in, get a loaf and block of cheese hop in our car and drive all about exploring.   Woolworths is a neat shop too, the huge bars of Galaxy chocolate......yummmm.lol
It was so much fun getting to know each part of England because they are all so different.   The different acents and all.

After your morning sickness subsides.....it will go away eventually, try to get out and explore with your new family.   We loved it and miss it.  I do not miss the weather but you get use to it.  Take advantage of the nice days and take in all of the beauty.   My Dh is trying to get us back there in the next year to go visit our friends, so we will see if that is the Lords plan.

Try the mushy peas! Grin  Man, I am craving pub food now!LOL

WITH tomato sauce - the real stuff too, not the mock stuff that you are used to in the US ... and chip sandwiches ALWAYS taste better sitting on a beach or in a park.

HN, thanks. Smiley Homesickness has faded. I have 2 weeks left now for this trip, and then I'll probably be homesick for England once I get back to the States.  Roll Eyes

I haven't had a chip sandwich, but it sounds like something I should try. I LOVE the thick, soft bread they make around here. And the fish, oh my goodness it's awesome! Yesterday we had lemon sole and chips, and the week before my MiL made grilled sea bass. The deep-fried cod is also great. And I don't have to drown my fish in tartar sauce over here to make it good, it's amazing!

I like the Galaxy candy bars, but my favorite is Cadburys. Oh, and next weekend we're going on a weekend trip to Edinburgh, so I'll let yall know how that goes. Always wanted to see Scotland.

This is funny...my British husband's British computer spellcheck keeps insisting I change "favorite" to "favourite"...lol

Andiclare, you are making me so hungry every time I read this thread!!! Shocked Ask your MIL when I can come for a visit!!! I can give birth in the UK, right?? Smiley

I am so happy that you are getting to experience your husband's home country. Smiley I am sure there are many things he will talk about over the years, and you'll be able to say: " I think I remember visiting there/eating that".  I have so many sweet memories from the beginning of my marriage, but none of them included traveling overseas Wink

So... any chance the family will be able to visit the states sometime? Smiley

That is so funny to me because I work at a software company and kept getting complaints from banks that their templates were misspelling stuff on their bank checks.  After me digging through the program, debugging, etc. etc. etc. I finally realized that they had set their templates to UK English instead of US English. LOL  Cheesy

My British husband always makes fun of me for not using "proper English"...(some of his words are so funny, my favorite: aluminum pronounced AL-U-MIN-EE-UM). I tell him that he is in "my country" now, so he has to be the one to adjust.  Cheesy I always end up translating for our friends when they look at him blankly after he speaks. He was raised north of London, but then also in South Africa, so he has a slightly different accent than his very proper-sounding parents.  Smiley

HN, we're hoping that his family can make it to the States to visit us at some point. More likely, we will come back to England to visit maybe once a year, or as often as we can afford it.

Yeah, we could write a book about the differences in the two languages!  Grin aluminum is one....then there's "advert" for "commercial"...and herbs with the h sound pronounced, instead of "erbs" like we say it. I also had to translate for my husband when he was here. Whenever we'd go to a restaurant or something, I did the ordering. He doesn't have your garden-variety English accent either...it's a real strong Northern (almost Scottish) accent. When he and his family get to talking the dialect is so strong, it's like a completely different language and I usually don't know what they're saying.  Cheesy

Try "ad" for commercial - advert is just fancy Smiley  And it IS Aluminium - see that extra "i" in there?  Favourite, colour, honour =  correct, correct, correct  Kiss

english english and american english are VERY different  Roll Eyes Although we speak "english english" here,  I have learned to translate on internet forums, or else I have to explain later. How about car boot, instead of trunk. Bonnet instead of hood. Hooter instead of horn. Dummy instead of pacifier. Nappy instead of diaper. and my personal favourite..... your cookie is our biscuit. Ahhh ok I can't find the general prayer intentions thread so thought I would go ahead and post my request here. Since we were talking about England and all to start with.  Grin

So...I'm still in England, a week and a half after I was supposed to be back in the States. My original flight (April 17) was cancelled due to the volcanic ash situation here in Europe. So...anyhow fast forward to now, after lots of drama and false starts we finally were able to get a flight back to the States, however we couldn't change our original ticket because you have to do that over the phone and we can't get through to any of the airlines, or Expedia, over the phone...It's a national crisis, nobody can get through to the airlines. It's total mayhem, seriously. We had to buy a brand new ticket online. We SHOULD be able to get the first ticket refunded because the airline cancelled it and all British flights were grounded for 5 days, etc., but we've been listening to the news and horror stores about the airlines not budging and thousands of people losing their money.  Sad Both tickets were almost £1000 each, so it's a huge hit if the first ticket isn't refunded. We can't afford it. If anyone can spare some prayers for this intention it will be greatly appreciated!
