I know most of you see a midwife Smiley  Our local hospital won't allow midwives Shocked  I am seeing a family practice doc rather than an OBGYN, which I am used to. Normally, an OBGYN will do an ultrasound at 10 weeks, and that is when you hear the heartbeat. My new doc was unable to hear one this week ( 11 weeks) just using a doppler. Apparently, my uterus is tipped. When do you normally hear a hearbeat only using the doppler? This is all new to me...but the doc did not seem concerned.

Twice out of my 4 pregnancies the heartbeat was heard "later" than usual; it couldn't be heard at 11 weeks.  Come to think of it, the other two pregnancies I didn't see anyone till way after the 11 week mark...

So, I wouldn't be concerned!

I'm going in on Monday to *hopefully* hear our little one's heartbeat. It'll be about 9 and a half weeks at that time, but the doctor is going to use a transvaginal ultrasound. Oh man I really late the sound of that LOL. But, it's their standard procedure so...fine.

Good for you finding a pro-life doctor! How did you find one, if you don't mind my asking? I have no idea if mine is or not. I'll probably get a rough idea when she hears how I figured out my due date using Natural Family Planning charting. Apparently a lot of "modern" doctors are very derisive of NFP, and from what I understand the more PRO-artificial birth control and ANTI-natural birth control the doctor is, the more abortion friendly they're also likely to be. Unfortunately.  Undecided

They were still having a hard time finding the heartbeat at almos 16 weeks with this baby.  Once they did, it was a healthy rate.  That, along with cramps in my back the whole time, I'm thinking my uterus must be in a different postion...like tipped back or something.  Everything has been different with this pregnancy, than with my previous 4.

They couldn't find the heartbeat of my little one at 12 weeks... I'll admit I was a little scared b/c I went in to see the Dr. because of some bleeding. But the ultrasound showed a very healthy baby.

My last visit (16 weeks) the heartbeat was still hard to find, but you could hear the baby kicking and punching the microphone thingy! But then we heard the heartbeat and it was a healthy rate. I'm measuring big for dates so I think maybe baby just had more room to hide!

Just some encouragement that if you don't hear the heartbeat right away everything can still be fine!

Andiclare- I called both the carenet and lifelight pregnancy centers, and this was the *only* pro life doc. they recommended. My former OBGYN used to have PLAN B brochures in her office. Shocked  I figured with me getting older and my uncertainty about where she stands, it was time to find a new doc. who was clearly pro life. By the way- congrats again on your pregnancy Smiley Smiley

Thank you everyone for the replies. I see the doc in a few more weeks. Wink

Thanks.  I have been feeling a lot better lately.  The cramps have eased and I'm feeling more consistent movement, which eases my mind so much.  I'm 21 weeks today.

I forget what it's called but some docs have a special instriment that shows the baby in the uterus even in the very begining stages of life. It is like an ultrasound and it has the ability to record what it sees for the mother to keep.

Anyways because of that machine I was able to see my baby's heatbeating only 3.5 weeks after conception. I saw a dot which was the baby at 3 weeks but she did not move then a few days later when I was 3.5-4 weeks after conception that dot had a beating heart. It was so cool. But I dont think a machine can pick up the sound of a heart beating at that stage.
