I'm 12 weeks pregnant now, and have a question about safe sleeping positions. I've read online that sleeping on your stomach is a no-no when you're pregnant. Now I could totally see how that position would be nearly impossible when you're further along with a big belly bump. But at 12 weeks like I am, when I'm not showing very much, is it still unsafe?

Normally I'm a side-sleeper (left side).  But sometimes when I'm having insomnia and can't sleep, I find that rolling over sort of halfway on my stomach (not completely flat; but with my head resting on my arm and one leg bent and wrapped around a pillow....does that make sense? lol) is like the only way I can get comfortable enough to fall asleep. I know I don't do it all night because I always wake up on my side or on my back. But anyhow, just wondering if this is ok. I don't want to crush the baby or anything.  Undecided

I'm a stomach sleeper, so I try to sleep on my stomach as far into my pregnancy as possible.  When it starts getting uncomfortable, I switch to my side.  I think you should be fine.

The baby has plenty of room and won't get crushed.  Your body will tell you when you can't sleep in that position any more - it will be uncomfortable.  I am a back sleeper and my body has never had a problem "remembering" that I shouldn't sleep that way any more even in the middle of the night.

Just enjoy the uninterrupted sleep you are still getting and don't worry about positions.

I've always slept the way you're describing is the only way you can get to sleep, and our babies were always fine.

I sleep half on my stomach like that unless it is uncomfortable. The baby's cushioned and free inside a balloon full of fluid. You will hurt before he does.  Cheesy

Now when my tailbone is out of place I wake up on my back. That's not healthy or comfortable! Just less painful than belly or side sleeping with the tailbone out.

I sleep on my stomach right up until d-day and all of mine have come out without a ding.  Not one Flat Stanley in the bunch!  Grin

I have discovered that the magazines, online articles and medical establishment caused me far too much unnecessary worry with my first three pregnancies... when I was paying attention to that type of thing.  I delivered all three of those babies prematurely due to stress... my last two have gone up to and even PAST my due dates.  The difference?  I'm not working outside the home.  I now use a midwife.  And even with an older and more physically stressed body, I trust it to do what God created it to do.  (oh, and I've had 7xsunday and welltellme too.)

I'm so glad that you came here to ask.  I wish I would have had an older, wiser woman to go to with my first three.

I loved sleeping on my ?left side? with my right knee as far up towards my chest as possible, as long as I could, maybe the whole entire pregnancy, I can't remember now...it helped with the nausea early on and was just plain comfortable to me....

I generally didn't worry about this either.... the baby is in a protective sack with fluid that disperses weight and protects him so that the discomfort will generally be felt only by you.  This obviously doesn't include falls or injuries.
I actually used a body pillow for comfort with both of my pregnancies, and even used a toddler's inflated swim floatie/donut for comfort if I wanted to lie on my stomach.

During my second pregnancy I took the middle cushion out of the sofa and let my belly sag between.   Tongue

Enjoy that sleep while you can!  You're gonna need it in about 7 months...  Grin

Andiclare-
I am in agreement that your body lets you know when you aren't in a good position. I have woken up during every single pregnancy and changed position because something didn't feel right. Wink Congrats again. Smiley

Definitely recommend the body pillow if you have access to one.
