Every time I hit the "quote" button, it inserts the ENTIRE post, then I have to delete parts. It doesn't help that I have IE so I have the jumping text thing going on too. I have taken to writing and edititng my replies in Word, and copying them over, but the last one I got all the quotes wrong..... Embarrassed

It's probably something really simple (it must be - y'all seem to be able to do it), so please excuse my ignorance and give me the "for dummies" explanation....... Wink

Yeah, that's how I do it too.  Tongue Maybe if you used firefox it would at least eliminate the "jumpy" thing.

Bah!  Would be so much easier if I could select the text I want to quote, and then insert *JUST* that..... Huh

I keep getting recommendations for Firefox...... I just don't feel like learning a new program... old dogs an all that  Wink   How different is it from IE??

It's kinda like with mobiles... I need a new phone, and am humming and hawing about getting a BB.... I've always had Nokia, and I can "speak" Nokia well.....  having to learn a new one........ sigh..... Roll Eyes

I don't know if this will be particularly helpful, but here's a method I use . . .

First, I select the quote button that looks like this
In my text box, the following code will appear (without the spaces) [ quote ][ /quote ]
Then I use my cursor to highlight the text I want to quote, right click and select the option 'copy.'
I move my cursor to the space between the quote bars and paste the copied text like this:

[ quote ]I move my cursor to the space between the quote bars and select paste like this:[ /quote ]

When I post the message, it appears like this:

Quote
I move my cursor to the space between the quote bars and select paste like this:

Hope that helps  Smiley

Now this is the question I have- how do you insert who said the original quote into the
Quote
. I know it's possible, I just can't remember how!

The only way I know of to do that is to click on the quote button on the other person's post.  It puts this text:

[ quote author=amy3js link=topic=25796.msg245645#msg245645 date=1267732611 ]

at the beginning of the quote, and that's what displays the name.

Now this is the question I have- how do you insert who said the original quote into the
Quote
. I know it's possible, I just can't remember how!
