I am considering going back to school part-time next year (as long as financial aid will cover it!), and I am wanting some ideas for what would be the easiest/quickest degree to get or job to shoot for.   Keep in mind, I'd be going part-time (1-2 classes a semester) and hopefully do it all online, from home....and I'd to use our local community college, so a one-year or two-year degree/certificate program will be fine for me...I'm not looking for a 4-year degree.   I'll also be working part-time, and still having to take care of kids, dh, &  home, so definitely something that does not require too much time/thinking on my part, LOL!.  I'm not considering what my interests or skills are at the moment...I need ideas first, and then I'll sort through them to figure out what I'd enjoy or be good at.  Also,  I need to consider the actual job demands, as I'll still be a busy mom of 4!  So, a flexible, family friendly job would be nice!

Khix,
Have you ever thought of reading the book about how to sell on Ebay? I know of a lady who is really successful with her ebay business... Maybe you could get the entire family involved?

The other thought I had was medical transcription. You can get a degree online, and I quite sure of it. A friend has been doing it for a few years now...

Yeah, I've thought about ebay....but I am not skilled at making anything....the only thing I can do is cross-stitch, and that takes up way too  much time to be cost effective.  And several years ago, I did try selling some cross-stitched items and I even tried selling digital cross-stitch charts.....but both flopped big time!

Haven't thought of  medical transcription...I'll add that one to my list.

What I have thinking about lately is real estate...I'm not thinking about the schooling part yet, but wouldn't the job itself have a flexible schedule?  Is anyone here in real estate?  If so, any tips/advice?

Also, keep in mind that I my kids are in public school, so I wouldn't necessarily need to be home, just be available in case someone got sick or whatever...and also hopefully be home when they are home!

Khix, I am told that ebay can be successful if you can get an item that people want at a cheaper price... I am told that kid's clothes are selling really well right now.
I have thought about selling them myself, if I had time to hit all the sales. For example: January and July are clearance " season" at the mall. I have gotten some AWESOME deals on clothing for my kids during these clearance " seasons". .. and seen things that I don't need on great deals as well.  This summer I got an old navy shirt for one of the boys that cost me about $1.20. I got Old Navy jeans for myself that cost me $4.50.  Sometimes you can run into a deal on a whole bunch of brand name shoes, then turn about and sell them on ebay for a higher price.  My friend's mom used to sell kid's clothes on ebay. She did well, but the one complaint was that she got tired of people asking her to measure things.... If you decide to go this route, let me know and I'll tell about when and where I have found some great deals. Smiley

Keep us posted on what you decide to do Smiley

I tried the selling name brand clothes on ebay thing, and for the time, and with all of the ebay/paypal fees and the time spent shopping and listing I was making pennies per hour... I don't recommend.

I do recommend for your situation starting your own cleaning business. I can give you loads of ideas if you would like. PM me or indicate if you're interested. Definitely a good way to earn a flexible income, name your own hours, and make fairly decent money.

I'll keep it in mind, but I just don't think the ebay thing is right for me....just the shopping/driving time alone is a negative for me.

Joychild, I have also thought about a cleaning business, BUT....dust/dogs make me sneeze big time, and dogs/cats give me asthma!  EVERY time I dust/vacuum our house, I sniffle & sneeze, even with a dust mask on.  I've helped a friend clean her house a couple times, and she has an indoor cat, and by the time I was done, my asthma was bothering me & continued to bother me for a few days.  I just don't think I could clean houses....I have to be able to breathe, ya know!  LOL!   Wink

Keep the ideas coming, but there are just so many reasons why I'm considering getting a degree in something....either that, or I'll just continue teaching preschool & subbing.  It's not much money, but it's a good schedule!

A note on the selling clothes on ebay thing- I have done it successfully a couple times, but the key was that I was selling only kids clothes that I already owned (my dd's old clothes and some that someone gave me). I wouldn't spend much time selling anything on ebay, but if you have something already lying around, you can just throw up a quick description and a couple pictures and then let it go. People may ask questions, but that doesn't mean you have to answer. I never got more than 2 questions per listing though, so I always did because it was so simple.

Basically I would suggest it as an occasional income helper, not a steady and sure source.  But I do certainly suggest it as a way to get a couple bucks off things you are probably going to send to the goodwill anyway.

Yeah, I've sold stuff on ebay before, and I will do it again should the opportunity arise, but I won't/don't rely on it.  And to me, sometimes the listing/selling fees & the cost/hastle to ship something is just not worth it.  I'd rather save up stuff to sell, and just have a rummage sale (which we already periodically do).

Another thing I'm considering is photography.  That is something I've always wanted to do, but I've never had the money to buy one of them "fancy" cameras....I just have the point & shoot kind.  My dh has told me several times that he likes my pictures and that he thinks I'd be a good photographer, and he wishes he could afford to get me a good camera.  The more I think about it, the more I think that maybe this might be right for me....if it is, then please pray that God will make a way for it to happen!

I think maybe I'd like to do free lance type of  stuff....or maybe be a wedding photographer.....

So, does anyone have any experience in the photography business?
