I would have thought that my youngest dd (5) would love her "school.  We started making ABC books.  She has been cutting out and pasting pictures in little booklets-one for each letter. We have done 4 books already.  Lately,  she hasn't been as keen on doing this, I am having to make her do it. She loves to draw and color, though.  I don't know if this is a discipline issue or something else.  Over the weekend, she "read" the  books that she completed (thinking that it would spark more interest).  I know she loves to be outside.  Also, since the weather has been nicer, she really wants to be outside, but I can't just indulge her, right? Any thoughts?  Thank you.

I am looking forward to the replies on this ... This age group tends to be a bit fickle about formal homeschooling... I am right there with you. Wink  It's always a matter of prayer for me to know how much to " push" when it comes to the really little ones. Right now I am sloooowly going through " get ready for the code" ( explode the code) with my almost 5 year old. I think it's been the holy spirit that keeps reminding me to keep it FUN and not expect him to do everything the directions say to do...He can learn, even he is not following the book to the " T"...

I'll be looking forward to more thoughts on this topic!

My humble opinion:  pushing isn't always good, but sometimes it is, and is necessary.  You also can't give in to just letting them run and play all day.
If you have decided that it is school time and school consists of reading/writing/math then she needs to be doing school.
My question would be this.... Is she bored with making the ABC books?  I guess if she's done 4, maybe it's just gotten old and isn't stimulating.  If she likes to draw and make books, let her do one that she picks the topic for.
I have found that limiting the scope of a project isn't always wise as often our kids are able and willing to do much more than we expect from them.  I would encourage you to have minimum expectations and provided the tools for her to do the job.  She may just surprise you.

Thank you, Mrs. B.  that does help  Smiley .  I guess I figured we would do all the letters in nice little books  Grin, but maybe it will be different ways for different letters.    I think this just goes back to my (as well as many homeschool moms) struggle of what to "require", how to go about it, what they like vs. what they need or should know--especially when you aren't going the more traditional route  Undecided
