Hello-
I have a 6 year old boy who LOVES to read, he is reading on about a 2nd or 3rd grade level and we are in need of some wholesome book ideas!  He loves adventure books and chapter books.  The ones we seem to find that are christian are more for girls!  We have a lot of bible study readers etc. but not a lot of fictions!  Any ideas?
I looked to find a thread about this and didn't, if it needs to be moved, please feel free to do so!
Thanks so much,
SDM

Ralph Moody's "Little Britches" Series
We enjoy these a whole bunch!  Here is a link to the whole list of titles:

We have a boy who loves to read anything by Jim Kjelgaard, and my husband enjoyed them when he was young, too.

You've probably already heard of Hank the Cowdog.

My 6yo nephew is currently collecting a series of chapter books called "toocool" about a sports-mad  boy named....toocool...with a dog named......Dog! He LOVES them.

So far he has the ones on fishing, surfing, cricket, skateboarding, football and AFL, and they are ok. They  are not "christian" though...I wasn't sure from your post if that was a pre-requisite.

The Farm Mystery Series by: Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Castleberry.  ( about homeschooled boys!)
Moody Family series  by: Sarah Maxwell ( also about homeschoolers)
My 9 year old liked Left Behind For Kids Smiley
Lee Roddy is my 9 year old's favorite author... The Ladd Family Adventures are his favorite, but he's also read The DJ Dillon books. Roddy is a christian Smiley
I'll keep thinking. Smiley

MY 7 year old is HIGHLY active and reads beautifully, he can read the family devotionals from my King James, the only problem is because of his activity level, NOTHING I have found catches his interest and sets him down to read, any ideas ? we don't watch TV so he isn't into TV fictional characters, and I am trying to keep things set into biblical literature, hero's of the faith type things just I don't know where to look all I know is my bible, and he likes pictures....

Khurts mom: Ok, for heros of faith you might want to check out YOUR STORY HOUR cd's... They are old radio drama...(www.libraryanded.com for the best price)
YWAM has a series of books about heros of faith, but my 9 year old who LOVES to read has only read a few of them... so I can't guarantee that your DS would like them...?

I know this thread is about books, but may I also suggest the JONATHAN PARK cd's? These are probably a favorite of my 9 and 7 year olds. They are adventure stories about creation science! Smiley  Amazon, vision forum ,and library and ed carries these.  My boys listen to these all the time during our quiet time in the afternoons.

I have heard that G.A.Henty books ( historical fiction I think) are excellent and also available as a book or on cd.

I am a cd/book collecting mama, always on the lookout for new titles, so I'll think about other titles I have seen suggested....

We started asking for G. A. Henty or R. M Ballantyne books for our son whenever family asked what to give as gifts.  We've also been able to find some of these books on Amazon .com, however they are paperback so don't have the collector value if that is important to you.   Everyone in our family LOVES these books.   They are fictional characters set in historically accurate settings and are strong in Christian character.

Hank the Cow Dog remains our families all time favorite for read aloud and hearty laughter.

We have found some wonderful reading material by asking the librarian at our local library.  She's had some great recommendations for us, including poetry, fiction, and how-to books (which we love!).

Whenever they are able to enjoy a book that will take more than a couple of days to read and they are able to use a dictionary.

My youngest son started reading these when he was 8 or 9.

hope that helps!   Wink

Wow!  Thanks so much ladies!  I am excited to hit amazon and look up some of these books!  We have been reading some of the trail blazer books, historical fiction, christian base!  They have been pretty good!  The stories about homeschooled boys sound great!
Thanks again for all of your help,
