"How Beautiful" was sung at my brother's wedding too...it would have been so lovely but rain was threatening in the background and everytime the guy would start to sing another verse my sister in law would throw laser beams at him with her eyes...by the time he got done we were all cracking up because it took SO LONG! But it was beautiful! And we got out of the weather JUST in time!

My mom walked down the aisle to Jesus, Joy of Man's Desiring (without lyrics.)

I love "How Beautiful"! My friend has a CD with her singing it, and it is even more beautiful. I walked down the aisle (actually, through the woods, we got married out doors) to "When you say nothing at all", not a Christian song but I love it. One of my favorite songs, which was sung before our vows, is "The Servant Song".

Will you let me be your servant
Let me be as Christ to you
Pray that I might have the grace
to let you be my servant too

We are pilgrams on a journey
We are travelers on the road
We are here to help each other
walk the mile and bear the load

I will hold the Christlight for you
in the nightime of your fear
I will hold my hand out to you
and speak the peace you long to hear

When we sing to God in heaven
we will make such harmony
Born of all we've known together
of Christ's love and agony.

I will weep when you are weeping
When you laugh I'll laugh with you
I will share your joy and sorrow
Till we've seen this journey through

Will you let me be your servant
Let me be as Christ to you
Pray that I might have the grace
to let you be my servant too

Beeyoutiful,

This may be a long shot, but could you type or PM me the lyrics to your songs from the  From the Ends of the Earth tape.  My daughter and I love to sing it in the car when we do errands together.  But let me share my dilemma with you.  This is what we are singing:

Pikininni, Pikininni, you come down on Jesus
Big pig mela big pella
Jesus liken' you
sousa, brada, papa one time mama
holy cow me-n-Jesus liken' you
holy cow me-n-Jesus liken' you

See!  We have done a grave injustice to the pidgin language.  We have a blast laughing in the car until we almost pee, but it would be nice to know all the words.  Wink

Here are the lyrics (I got them from the CD case)

Pikini, Pikinini, yu kam nau long Jisas
Liklikpela, bikpela, Jisas laikim yu
Susa, brata, Papa wantaim Mama
Ol i kam long Jisas, em i laikum yu

I have so many favorite songs! My mama was the queen of folk songs and ballads and all kinds of learning ditties that I find myself singing to my boys Cheesy But if I had to pick ONE favorite it would be "Come Gracious Spirit" My husband and I started singing that one together before we were married as a prayer to end our dates and now I often sing it to my children at bedtime.
oops got to go... If any of you want the words I'll put them in later.

Okay, I am laughing too hard to type....thinking of writing what he sings.   Embarrassed  Cheesy Embarrassed Cheesy
I think I would get kicked off!!

I can tell you this... after riding in a long car ride.....our daughter (and us) have listened to the cd (maybe multiple times).... he dances around and pokes and grabs at me (with mischief in his eyes) singing his ever-changing version.

Hmm... maybe you and your hubby can make a fun song together  Wink

Great idea for a post!

I love "Jesus, Lover of my Soul" by Charles Wesley..he has many marvelous songs, doesn't he?

Jesus, Lover of my soul, let me to thy bosom, fly,
While the nearer waters roll, While the tempest still is high:
Hide me, O my savior hide, Til the storm of life is past;
Safe into thy haven guide; O receive my soul at last.

Other refuge have I none; hangs my helpless soul on Thee.
Leave, ah! Leave me not alone, Still support and comfort me.  All my trust on Thee is stayed,
All my help from Thee I bring;
Cover my defenseless head
With the shadow of Thy wing.

Thou, O Christ, art all I want; More than all in Thee I find;
Raise the fallen, cheer the faint, Heal the sick and lead the blind.
Just and holy is Thy name, I am all unrighteousness;
False, and full of sin I am, Thou art full of truth and grace.

Plenteous grace with Thee is found; Grace to cover all my sin;
Let the healing streams abound; make and keep me pure within.
Thou of life a fountain art, Freely let me take of Thee;
Spring Thou up within my heart, Rise to all eternity.

I think I enjoy most songs in a minor key... Smiley

I just love this thread!  SC, I didn't know the Pidgin language was so easy to learn! I'll have to teach myself!   Cheesy  My husband and I never had a wedding, just a justice of the peace thing, and my oldest, Jade, is dreaming of planning a 'Renaissance' themed wedding one day for us, complete with gorgeous costumes - everyone would come dressed - and food that goes along, her horse and his friends, but the music played would be all of my husband and my favorite songs with lyrics that over the last almost 18 yrs of marriage seem like that have been written about us.  The wedding favor will be a songbook and cd of our favorites that we croon to each other. Here's one of them that reminds me of when he's been overwhelmed with being the sole support of the 9 of us, bills are high, and he tells me that coming home to me and our times together is his paradise becase in my arms, he feels safe and we forget about everything but us.  Aaahhh....you see why I love him? Roll Eyes

"Bring It On Home" by Little Big Town

You got someone here wants to make it alright
Someone who loves you more than life right here
You got willing arms that'll hold you tight,
A hand to lead you on through the night right here,
I know your heart can get all tangled up inside,
But don't you keep it to yourself

[Chorus:]
When your long day is over
And you can barely drag your feet
The weight of the world is on your shoulders
I know what you need -
Bring it on home to me

You know I know you like the back of my hand,
But did you know I'm gonna do all that I can right here,
I'm gonna lie with you till you fall asleep
When the morning comes I'm still gonna be right here (yes I am)
So take your worries and just drop them at the door
Baby leave it all behind

[Chorus]

Baby let me be your safe harbor
Don't let the water come and carry you away

[Chorus]

You got someone here wants to make it alright
Someone who loves you more than life right here

Be Thou My Vision is one of our favorites!  It is one of several songs my husband repeatedly tells me he wants played at his funeral.  I call them "Ralf's Funeral Songs List."  I guess if I die first he can play them at mine too since it hasn't occurred to me to start my own list   Grin Grin Grin Grin

"Be Thou My Vision" is another favorite here, too...sometimes, I wish I'd been born Irish...with the affectionate way mums seem to talk w/ their children..their brogues...their castles...green lands....I connect that song w/ the Irish b/c I've heard Eden's Bridge (I think) sing it...Lovely.

Be Thou My Vision is one of my favourites too.  Here are the lyrics to one of my other favourites though - it's by Phil Joel - a Kiwi (New Zealander) like me  Smiley, but also part of the Newsboys which some of you may be more likely to have heard of ...(being in America and all that!  Wink)

Erin

Watching Over You

He sees you down by the waterline
Knows what you're thinking all the time
He's sees the rising of the wave
When the tide starts rollin in
He lets you know its going to be ok

He sees you dancing in the moonlight
His arms around you hold you tight
And if those clouds should start to break
He’ll be standing out in the rain for you
Know it’s hard to believe - he believes in you

God is watching over you, as always
You are loved whatever you go through
He's right beside you
God is watching over you, as always
And if you ever think he’ll ever leave you - you better think again

You are loved - whatever you go through
Painted in the sky a rainbow to remind you
Nothing that is broken can not be made new

He knows when you feel so far away
He's going to keep the night light on
He's waiting there, there to receive you

God is watching over you as always
You are loved whatever you go through
He's right beside you
God is watching over you,  as always
You are loved whatever you go through

Through fire, through wind and through the rain
Yesterday, today, tomorrow still the same
Nothing here can take this love
Nothing you can do will break this love
Find a dream, gonna reach so high
Swing low sweeet chariot, it’s time to fly
And if you think he’ll ever leave you - you better think again

God is watching over you, as always
You are loved whatever you go through
He's right beside you
God is watching over you, as always
And if you ever think he’ll ever leave you - you better think again

I love the Newsboys! Smiley They've been one of my favorites since I was little... They have this one song from their album Thrive, called Lord I Don't Know which always helps me feel better when I'm feeling sad/depressed or confused. Here are the lyrics:

You are the author of knowledge
You can redeem what's been done
You hold the present and all that's to come
Until your everlasting kingdom

Lord, I don't know where all this is going
Or how it all works out
Lead me to peace that is past understanding
A peace beyond all doubt

You are the God of tomorrow
Turning the darkness to dawn
Lifting the hopeless with hope to go on
You are the rock of all salvation

Lord, I don't know where all this is going
Or how it all works out
Lead me to peace that is past understanding
A peace beyond all doubt

Oh, Lord, You are the author
Redeeming what's been done
You hold us in the present
And all that is to come

Hey y'all, how about the yoddeling veterinarian of the alps?!  He's always been my favorite.  I heard a funny one on the radio a while back:

If I could make a livin' out of lovin' you
I'd be a millionaire in a week or two
I'd be doin' what I love and lovin' what I do
If I could make a livin' out of lovin' you.

Obviously a country song, y'all  Wink

Anything by Rich Mullins just makes me cry - he was killed in a jeep accident, quite young, never married but gave his life to ministering to the American Indians living among them.  His songs are so poetic and just make me long for where he is.  Here's a sampling.  He was a musical genious and amazing man of words.  All his stuff is amazing:

We Are Not As Strong As We Think We Are (part of it):

It took the hand of God Almighty to part the waters in the sea
But it only took one little lie to separate you and me
Oh we are not as strong - as we think we are

And they say that one day Joshua, he made the sun stand still in the sky
But I can't keep the thoughts of you - from passing by
Oh we are not as strong - as we think we are

Chorus:
We are frail, we are fearfully and wonderfully made
Forged in the fires of human passion, choking on the fumes of selfish rage
And with these hells and our heavens, so few inches apart
We must be awfully small, and not as strong as we think we are

If I Stand:

There's more that rises in the morning than the sun
More that shines in the night than just the moon
There's more than just this fire here that keeps me warm
In a shelter that is larger than this room
There's a loyalty that's deeper than mere sentiment
A music higher than the songs that I can sing
The stuff of earth competes for the allegance
I owe only to the Giver of all good things

Chorus:
So if I stand let me stand on the promise that you will pull me through
And if I can't let me fall on the grace that first brought me to you
If I sing let me sing for the joy that has born in me these songs
But if I weep let it be as a man who is longing for his home...

There's more that dances on the prairies than the wind
More that pulses in the ocean than the tide
There's a love that is fiercer than the love between friends
More gentle than a mother's when a baby's at her side

Elijah:

The Jordan is waiting for me to cross through
My heart is aging I can tell
So Lord, I'm begging for one last favor from You
Here's my heart - take it where You will
This life has shown me how we're mended and how we're torn
How it's Ok to be lonely as long as your free
Sometimes my ground was stony and sometimes covered up with thorns
And only You could make it what it had to be
And now that it's done...
If they dressed me like a pauper
Or if they dined me like a prince
If they lay me with my fathers
Or if my ashes scatter on the wind
I don't care!

Chorus:
When I leave I want to go out like Elijah
With a whirlwind to fuel my chariot of fire
And when I look back on the stars
It'll be like a candlelight in Central Park
And it won't break my heart to say goodbye...

There's people been friendly, but they'd never be your friends
Sometimes this has bent me to the ground
But now that this is all ending I want to hear some music once again
Cause it's the finest thing that I have ever found
But the Jordon is waiting thought I ain't never seen the other side
Still they say you can't take in the things you have here
So on the road to salvation I stick out my thumb and He gives me a ride
And His music is already falling on my ears
There's people been talking
They say they're worried about my soul
Well, I'm here to tell you I'll keep rocking
'Til I'm sure it's my time to roll
And when I do...

Chorus

Chorus from Hold Me Jesus:

So hold me Jesus
'cause I'm shaking like a leaf
You have been King of my glory
Won't you be my Prince of Peace

Makes me cry just writing these.  I think he's unparalleled.

Also, almost anything by Dennis Jernagen  - his music is what I imagine playing in heaven.

There is also a line Jean Valjean sings in Les Miserables as he contemplates lying to save himself from prison:

My soul belongs to God I know
I made that bargain long ago
He gave me hope when hope was gone
He gave me strength to carry on...

I LOVE MUSIC!!!  From "Jesus Loves Me" and "This is My Father's World" to Rich Mullins and Keith Green I just LOVE MUSIC!  My favorite hymn is "My Jesus I Love Thee"

Here are the words to an awesome Keith Green song:

ASLEEP IN THE LIGHT

Do you see, do you see all the people sinking down?
Don't you care, don't you care are you gonna let them drown?
How can you be so numb, not to care if they come?
But you close your eyes and pretend the job's done.
Bless me Lord, bless me Lord, you know it's all I ever hear,
No one aches, no one hurts, no one even sheds one tear,
But He cries, He weeps, He bleeds, and cares for your needs,
And you just lay back and keep soaking it, OH can't you see it's such SIN!
'Cause He brings people to your door, but you turn them away, as you smile and say.......
"God Bless you be at peace," and all Heaven just weeps,
'Cause Jesus came to your door, you've left Him out on the streets.
Open up, open up and give yourself away,
You see the need, you hear the cries so how can you delay?
God's calling and you're the one, but like Jonah you run.
He's told you to speak, but you keep holding it in........OH CAN'T YOU SEE IT'S SUCH SIN!
The World is sleeping in the dark that the Church just can't fight cause Its asleep in the Light!
How can you be so dead?  When you been so well fed?
Jesus rose from the grave, and you, you can't even get out of bed!
Oh, Jesus rose from the dead, come get out of your bed!
How can you be so numb, not to care if they come?
But you close your eyes and pretend the job's done.
Don't close your eyes, don't pretend the job's done.
Come away, come away, come away with Me, My Love,
Come away from this mess, come away with Me, My Love.

Wow- am I supposed to pick just one??  Cheesy I'm definitely a Keith Green fan- also Michael Card (ESPECIALLY his old stuff)! I sing veggie tales songs too and I don't even have children to blame it on!!!  Cry Roll Eyes Wink
I usually have a song of the day, but today I've just been walking around humming a snatch of this & a line of that... and the last line of that hymn that I can't remember the name of. It's been one of those days!  Kiss
