I'm with my family in Kansas. But I just got back from 2 1/2 weeks in the Philippines, teaching children & highschoolers character mixed with the Gospel, helping with children's Bible clubs, and reaching out person-to-person. Filipinos are delightful--they act more like people than the average person in the states. They're friendly and open, and you'll find that some of them are very committed to God, yet trying so hard to get to heaven by good works. And even though they're lost, God is more real to some of them than He is to some professing Christians in the U.S. They're trying so hard. If you can love God without being saved, some of them do.

The title caught my eye. Some friends of mine used to tell their children, "If you don't behave, we're going to send you to Outer Mongolia!" Well, time passed, and the parents got invited to travel to Outer Mongolia! It was their first trip out of the country, first major airline flight for this older couple from New Jersey. I met up with them in Minneapolis, along with Tim Levendusky, and we took off together bound for Narita. However, halfway through the flight, a strong shimmey in the cabin indicated a problem. Shortly after, the captain came on saying, "Ladies and gentlemen, the top half of the rudder seems to be stuck in the fully deflected position. We have altered course and will be making an emergency landing in Anchorage, Alaska in about an hour." We came in in crash position and saw the fire engines and everything--but God surrounded us all with peace. Then we spent a complimentary day in Anchorage! The couple had always wanted to see Anchorage!
This was just the beginning of their month-long adventure in Outer Mongolia. Mine lasted 6 months, and I've been back to visit twice. It's not as bad a place as you might think.

I to love missionaries. My parents are missionaries in Cat Island, Bahamas. My father is Bahamian and my mother is American. They became fulltime missionaries while I was in college. Late bloomers (it is never to late and you are never to old to do the Lord's work) I call them. They decided to stay in the Bahamas and go out to the other islands (700 of them) and minister. Thinking they would be working in the comunity, God had other plans. He opened the door into the public schools on the islands. The Bahamas is still called a Christian nation and openly embraced my parents. They lead chapel and teach arts/crafts to the children. They have been to Exuma, Long Island and now Cat Island. They are in every school on the island once a week. During the summer they run VBS programs and bring teams in from other churches and from the USA too. I am so amazed at what the Lord is Accomplishing through them. They are in the middle of VBS now and I would love your prayers for them. Their names are Edison and Eunice Pinder with Sonlight Boat Ministry.
Great post thanks

I love to see missionary familes that grow more missionaries - either by birth or influence! I also think it is interesting how small the missionary world is and the connections between people.
Yesterday I took a family to the airport to leave for Papua New Guinea. They have 4 children, the oldest will be 5 next month. It was so exciting to see them off! The father is one of 6 children and right now 4 of the siblings in the family are in training or on the way to be missionaries (1 to PNG, 2 to Mozambique, 1 to Indonesia.) Another sibling will start training next year and the 6th sibling is planning on leaving for Bible school next year, then hopes to be a missionary too. How neat to meet a family so dedicated to the work of Bible translation! The parents have redone their home to include 2 small apartments to accomodate any of the familes home of furlough, and to be used for other missionaries who may need housing when they are visiting the area.
My son and his wife are looking to start missionary training next year. DIL's brother and wife will be leaving in the spring for Mongolia. Her brother's wife's parents are in PNG. DIL's stepmother went to Bible school (she was a widow and went to Bible school after that husband died) and then training and was on the field in Indonesia when my DIL's father propsed (he was a widower.) She has a stepdaugter from her first marriage in PNG (this woman has married 2 widowers and helped raise their children but has no biological children). This woman - who I guess is my son's step mother in law, if that is a title!?- went to Bible school with a young woman named Rebekah Pearl
)
So, we love missionaries too, and maybe someday we will be some and help reach the unreached!

My husband and I are missionaries in Asuncion, Paraguay. We are church planters, and we love missionaries almost as much as we love being missionaries!
Please pray that we will see results for God's glory. That many, many, many people will be saved. The Mormons are "targeting" Paraguay right now. There are so many teenage elders here its unbelievable. The people here are poor, and the Mormons pay them to come to church, bring people to church, drive their buses, etc. So, needless to say the Mormons attract a lot of followers. Pray that we will be a shining light in this dark world.
Also, on a personal note, I need prayer in the area of natural foods and health. I am learning alot on welltellme, but some of the ingredients are hard to find here. For example, I want to make some Vinegar of the Four Theives, but I have no idea where to find wormwood (whatever that is!!) or how to say it in Spanish. Health food stores are few and far between here, and usually only have things like soy flour, honey, and GNC vitamins.
I speak fluent spanish, but some of the herbs in the US are just not found here, and it's hard to know what to substitute, especially for a beginner like me!
Thanks for the prayers.

Me too!! The Lord is really starting to put Mission Work on my husbands heart more and more. It has been on my heart for a very long time, and my dream is to pack it all in and head to "Outer Mongolia" or wherever the Lord calls with our family. However, I am not the head of our family and I know God is wanting to do awesome things through my husband. So, I would love prayers for our family to know and do God's will and to raise children who will not hesitate when He calls them. We have friends who are missionaries in Ireland and we are heading over for a visit with them next year, and dh is really interested in seeing where we can fit into their ministry.
We also love to have foreign exhange students in our family and we have had two lovely girls in past years - one from Hong Kong and one from Brazil. We are still in touch with them both, the Brazilian is now married with two children (our adopted grandkids - even though I am only 33). Having these girls in our home has really broadened the horizons for our kids. We have learned languages and we have been able to send Bibles and the Gospel back to these foreign countries. We are still praying for both of them to come to a real and personal relationship with Christ.
Our probable next step towards the "field" is international adoption. We are praying about a sibling group from Ethiopia and we may soon travel there to see what opportunities the Lord opens up.
I love this thread, please keep the prayer requests coming.

I think this is a wonderful idea!!!
As we travel around the U.S., we often have pockets of time between churches, my husband doesn't always want to run to relatives homes.
A place to "hang out" and rest up and recharge for the next series of meetings is a great idea!
We will pray for you and hopefully be able to take advantage of this lovely thing you are able to provide.

We have a heart for missions. DH and I have been on a few short term missions trips, the longest being 2 months in China (DH). We are currently preparing ourselves to go to China to teach English. We both feel that we should have a legitimate reason for being there, since China is a closed nation. Please pray that God will guide us and prepare us for this ministry. Thanks!

Do stateside missionaries count?
My husband and I are missionaries with a "non-profit disaster relief" shipping organization. This ministry does medical outreaches (in Haiti and Honduras, we are planning a Caribbean medical mission for this fall) where Doctors and nurses from the states volunteer their time to come and give medical attention for a week at a time wherever we are. We have taken relief aid to Israel twice, and have sent various 40' containers full of supplies to different locations.
My husband works as a mechanic when land-based, and when sailing, he is an engineer in the engine room of a WW2 Liberty ship. I clean up after people.

I thought I'd add this. I took it from a post
HERE
over at WellTellMe.
We live at CMTS Ministries - Christian Missionary Technical Services. This ministry was founded 25 years ago by a man and his wife who, when they were in Peru, noticed that so many missionaries and ministers were using run-down machienery, vehicles and facilities. These servants of the Lord were well trained Biblically, but had no technical knowledge, whatsoever. So, CMTS has 3 goals:
(1) Provide technical assistance, material and equipment for use by Bible-Believing missionaries and Christian organizations. We do this by collecting donations and then distributing them to missionaries and ministries all over the world. Each year CMTS packs several shipping containers - usually with a couple vehicles, clothes, desks, computers, and MUCH more. "We pack it if you can send it!" We also have a fleet of 80 - 100 vehicles that are available for missionaries when they return for furlough. The cost of these vehicles (like a rental place) covers our insurance and registration. This means a family can have a vehicle to travel with for the duration of their stay without worrying about insuring, registering, and even buying one!
(2) Teach Christians the technical skills that they will need while serving in the mission field. That is one of (the many) reasons we are here. My husband is learning SO MUCH mechanically; he already is an excellant carpenter! Once, a person came here for about a year to learn basic car repairs. We then gave him an official looking certificate and he is using that as a "job cover" while he ministers in a closed country.
(3) Challenge the church, inviting believers to use their God given skills and abilities for the service of missionary work. We want to let the body of Christ know that each member has special gifts, abilities, and tallents that can be used for the kingdom. You don't need to go to seminary, be a pastor or be a missionary to be used by God!
So, in a nutshell, that is what we are doing! (I am priveledged to stay at home with my babies, and be a welcomed haven for my man. I help him do what he needs, but am not involved in any specific "job" here at CMTS; Andrew (DH) on the other hand, does enough for 10 men )
Blessings!

We moved to Poland in February. Our hope is to find translators throughout Europe for the Good & Evil book. Right now we're in the phase of heavy-duty language and culture learning! So far, we've planted a couple of "seeds" and we're like eager children, watching the "garden" for seedlings to come up.
We're excited about planting more seeds in the months to come. The Lord is so good! He's been making so many things easy that should have been difficult. I am in awe!

We are leaving in October for Liberia. My husband is going to start a prison correspondence course with the prisoners in Monrovia. We also want to work with the street kids who live in the city dumps and burned out cars from the war. There are a few unreached tribes in Liberia and I think God will also send us to those people in time.
We have 9 young children and would like prayer for wisdom and knowledge to keep them healthy there and for building strong relationships with the locals. We are not going out under a mission board and know one there. We know one pastor a little. So pray we can find housing immediatly and that this would be instrumental in bringing in the harvest.
This is a 100% faith walk here. Sometimes I think we've gone crazy yet I am 100% sure that this is whatGod has for our family.
Thanks for your prayers

I am extremely curious, Joyfulmomto9, how your journey has turned out. If you have access to internet, we would love to hear. I wish I had read this thread earlier. I grew up in Liberia. My parents were missionaries there. I was born in Ethiopia, and moved to Liberia when I was in the 3rd grade...stayed there 'til I graduated from highschool in '88. I know a lot of people in Liberia! We would love to adopt from Liberia, someday, if anyone knows an "economical" way to adopt from this country.

Just want to post this request for prayer from missionary friends of ours, and the joyful answer to prayer a few days later...
Quote
...we have just had a ring from friends in England asking us to pray urgently for a German family . The parents have hidden their children in Germany and gone to our friends in England looking for somewhere to live - They think they have somewhere but now have to go back and get their children and get them all out of Germany safely. We have been in touch with N____ - I will write more later. Now I am going to the gardens which we do each Saturday morning to provide vegetables for the families here. Thankyou all for your encouragement and prayers - we were greatly blessed by Gabe writing to us too. Much love from S_____.
(The "families here" depending on the gardens are 3 other homeschooling German families who have recently escaped Germany with their children.)
Quote
The children are safely out of the country with the mother. The police were going to come and take the children away today. The father is back in the country to tidy up the household things. As we were in our Sunday meeting yesterday praying, the mother and children were being helped onto the ferry late at night by some from England. Thankyou all for praying. With grateful hearts. S_____.

As for the Liberian adoption - acresofhope.com is an orphanage that I have heard it is fairly easy to adopt from. I think it is one of the least expensive as well. We have not personally worked with this agency, just in researching adoption, they look like a good one!

I wanted to bump up this thread and invite more ongoing communication on current prayer requests and needs among missionary families. Please also include indigenous ministries! We believe we should network for them, as often as we can, for prayer support and edification. If not also for physical support. e-mail us also anytime if you feel led to do so. txseawater or leoandsea
I'll just mention some the countries in which
we
have contacts, and ask you to pray for God's Holy Spirit to be poured out upon those ministering in these regions. Please add your lists to ours and in time, we will see areas of focus. I feel very cautious to protect identities and specific locations in many cases.

Right now we are working mostly with an organization that our church has partnered with called New Hope In Christ International located in the favellas of Rio de Jainero, Brasil. We are also praying about a possible mission opportunity in San Luis, Brasil. So, Brasil is in our hearts right now and we are headed down there in June for a mission trip and we are currently in the adoption process trying to adopt a baby girl who was offered to us by our friends in San Luis, when her mom came to the foster home in their city to give her up. We would appreciate your prayers for these organizations as well as this baby girl who may be our daughter one day and even if she's not, we will always pray for her.
