Ephesians 5:2

« on: July 10, 2006, 11:35:35 PM »

One of the best times we had traveling was once when we did a "working vacation." We spent a week at a home for troubled teens where we worked in the kitchen, cleaned, painted etc.

Maybe some of you know of mission opportunities or ministries that could use support of some sort, including prayer support.

I'll start the ball rolling by mentioning NGJ (of course  Smiley) It isn't much, but we try to always include extra money whenever we order materials. We know it will be put to prayerful use.

The school for troubled teens that I mentioned is Anchor Academy in Havre, Montana. They were founded in Texas by the People's Baptist Church and are still a ministry of that church. The staff at Anchor receive only token pay -- something like $100 or $200 per month plus room and board. They are in the middle of the most beautiful piece of nowhere you've ever seen. They are a faith-based ministry. They often have to delay or turn away urgent cases because they lack space, but they never turn anyone away because of financial need.

I know of some retirees and families that spend a portion of each year traveling to ministries where they can donate time, skills, etc. Why not tell us about ministries you are supporting?

I have only one thing to say - Emmanuel Children's Home!  Grin
My parents have been a part of their ministry for many years. It is awesome!
Check out their website at www.emmanuelministries-juarez.org It gives you so much more information than I can type in this post.
My youth group has gone there for 2 years now and the children's home is such a blessing in that area of Mexico!  Smiley
You can support them by prayer, financial gifts, or sponsoring one of the kids from the Home.

Actually I have a question??? My children and I started a ministry in our own home. I wanted to do something as a homeschool mom and also include my children, since we can't get out much I decided to write a gospel letter, sorta like a tract, but with personal testimony.  I've been wanting to do this for awhile and one day we were watching a documentary about San Quinten State Prison in California.  This seemed to stay with me for weeks. I kept putting off writing the letter(felt I needed more prayer and bible time) until one day my cable went out to my computer and as I for once had some free time, I felt a still small voice telling me to write that letter.  I prayed that the Lord would show me where it was I needed to send these letter to, the phonebook or the prison, my neighbors? I sat down to fold some clothes on the couch after I had finished writing this letter, and was going to watch  the learning channel...there was another film on the San Quinten Prison. I really felt like that was where my letters should go!

SO my question is..does anyone know how I might send these? Maybe you have experience with a jail ministry? Or would know how I might receive information on getting these letters to their prison cells.
We are excited about being able to give the Gospel through our mail!!!

Not exactly sure if this is the right place to post this but if we're talking about ministries.  I am involved in a ministry that sends items and funds to pastors in outreach in various places overseas.  A few in India snd the Phillipines and one in Kenya.  They are sweet men and women of God who really need support and encouragement.  The ministry link is:
www.likepreciousfaith.org
Check it out if you're interested.  There's info on the Pastors and pics and such.  There are also a slew of links on just about everything so wade through them at will.  My kids like some of the chilfren's activity links.
God Bless!

Don't know if this is still relevant, but I will add what I know.

There is a ministry called Friend Ships (www.friendships.org) that is a shipping ministry - my husband and I work for them.  We own property in Lake Charles, LA.  We have tons of stuff for work groups to do!  You could sort clothes (to go to Israel, Haiti, or a hurricane disaster response), you could clean up some old WW2 ships, do dishes, work in the galley (or kitchen), we have vehicles to work on, we have structures that need attention, we have a garden area, and lawn-keeping jobs, etc...We have SO much that could benefit young people - job-wise.

We can take groups big or small!  We once had a group of 85 (a youth group from OK) come and spend some time here.  It is HARD work, especially in the Louisiana summer heat.

See the website above for more information about bringing a group down!

A pastor friend of ours has a website that has articles he has written on many different topics. He sends mailings of these articles, and teaching series on topics like Forgiveness, Judgementalism,  Condemnation, and many more. He also sends into prisons. And he always sends everything out for free.  We love Pastor David so much! Check it out and pass it on to someone else! www.dailyhelp.com  Grin
